Hi! Wanted to get back to my favorite crafting medium...clay! so I signed up to take a pottery class last month.  I was hoping to practice my wheel work, but I had to cut my time short since Lana's school is starting so I wimped out and did what was easy.  I made a few slab work pieces and thought I'd share them with you today.  I used some "borrowed" hosta leaves for the platter and a cookie cutter for the ukulele ornaments.  I embellished the ornaments with a dowel to press a hole and my rib tool to make some abstract lines to suggest the strings.  Anyhow this will probably be my last forte into clay till next summer.
Enjoy! R

hosta leaf plate...you can see my name in kanji at the bottom if you have good eyes.  Smiley

ukulele ornaments that I made as Christmas presents for our halau.  Will probably sign the back with 2016.

Also made a few pendants and mugs...some pendants may sneak into my Shop the Swap Shop once I figure out how I want to put them together.

Fantastic! I love them both! I'm going to make some of those big leaf garden ornaments with plaster or cement, yours is so much nicer than that, diningroom worthy for sure Smiley.
We have Ukes for us and the kids and a video we are using to learn how to play. Such a fun instrument!

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

The color of your platter is beautiful! Is it a flat piece, or are the edges curved up a little?  The little ukuleles will be perfect gifts; good thinking turning them into ornaments. Very lovely work, UTM!

Wow, that leaf plate is very impressive looking, especially the color/finish, and the veins are really sharp.  The little ukuleles came out great too!
