I love making hexies but never know what to do with them when I am done...I doubt that I have the patience to make a huge quilt with them all!

So, when I found out we were doing a white elephant gift exchange at the recent Canada Meet-up, I decided to make a linen journal or book cover.  I picked out a bunch of green ones I made in a variety of sizes and scattered them on this natural green/grey linen.

I wanted a simple but useful closure...I have had this bakelite button found in my great grandma's button box forever that screamed out at me...

Here it is:

I enjoyed making it and had so much fun watching everyone as they opened their prizes.  I am hoping that the person who got my prize can use it to make a list of her next fabulous projects or gift it to a friend who needs some organization in life, like me!

That is lovely, I also really like the way you used the different-sized hexies, so effective.  Smiley

I love this little notebook. If it had been opened before my turn, I may have stole it. Wink

I love it!  The owl looks like he is sitting in a tree, surrounded by the green hexies!

It is lovely.  I have always referred to hexies as the 'dark side' and refused to go there... until I made a pin cushion in a surprise class.  That truly challenged my resistance to the dark side.  I am convinced if I start I too will have bajillions of hexies that are a half a gajillion short of a quilt and thus more UFOs in my closet.  Great job finding a way to make AND use them.

I like to make hexies to preserve the memory of my fabric stash...I cut out pieces of each fabric I buy and throw it into a box for hexies and my scrap quilt.  Someday, I will have a quilt or something made of my hexies....just for me!

I also have a Pinterest board of ways to use these other than a huge quilt...and yeah, it is addicting, so don't go to the dark side unless you plan on being there for a very very long time...mayhaps forever!
