Like most of you I am in utter shock and dismay over this weekend's events in Orlando.  A resident of Orlando for over 20 years, this tragedy really hit home since it was right in my backyard.  Orlando is a great place to live and raise my family, it's a huge melting pot of wonderful cultures and great people I love calling it home.
I also lost 2 co-workers in the massacre and my work is having a vigil on Thursday.  Although I had no direct connection with either victim, we mourn their loss as part of our family.  I crocheted this garland for my cube, it's the very least I can do to show I am Orlando Proud and Orlando Strong.  I donated blood 3 weeks ago and my son donated 5 weeks ago so we missed out on that opportunity for support.

If anyone wants the heart pattern it's real simple

Round 1: 10 HDC in a magic ring, join
Round 2: ch2, 1 HDC in same stitch, 2 DC in each stitch around (20 stitches)
Round 3: ch 2, 1 HCD in same stitch, *1 DC in next stitch, 2 DC in next stitch* repeat around, join (30 stitches)
Round 4: see below diagram

All aboard the Hot Mess Express:

I also have a connection to Orlando and this horror really affected me deeply...thanks for sharing your story and pattern...this would be a small something that would help us all remember and heal...

I think we are all sick of the debates on the availability of weapons of war and hate against anyone "different" in culture, religions and sexual preference...we want to do something positive...

Beautiful and meaningful project...you are a such a dear one, bethntim!  Kiss

In an adorable turn if events my hubby said, "honey, that's really pretty but...... (long pause....) you're not gay"
I said, "I don't think you have to be gay to support gay rights"
And he LITERALLY did this...

And said, "well, you're not wrong!"

Remind him that you are also supporting human rights, so you are doubly "right"! Grin

Plus, gay or not, who doesn't love a rainbow?!

Cool project to show your solidarity!  I like that you also braided the garland's rope in rainbow hues to match the hearts.  I don't know anyone that was involved in that recent tragedy in Florida, but, it's still tough to see/hear about another one of those senseless massacres of innocent people.

Those are wonderful to wear not only for the vigil but always...beautiful.  I can't stop crying when I hear of the lives lost...each person has a story...so sad.
