Details of swap:

You will craft a "page" - more like a quilt block - with unfinished sides and back and your partner will add it to his/her art journal or make a fabric book. Each swapper may choose the size they would like and the theme and their partners will have artistic license to interpret this theme as they wish. This could also be called a mixed-media fabric art journal page because you will add, incorporate and embellish with lots of goodies - fabric, buttons, ribbon, charms, sequins, paper and whatever else you can think of and/or already possess.

NOTE: We are swapping 1 page each with 2 or 3 partners, as we did in Rounds 3 and 4.

As in all swaps, communication is key for a happy swap. So chat with your partner, chat in the discussion thread and ask questions This is a new technique and medium for most of us so we're all newbies in this swap.

Aimr!  I can't wait to try this new craft! I've been drooling over prayer flags and wish I had joined just so I could play with fabric in a more artistic way so I was way excited when I saw this swap. I already have ideas for my own pages. Maybe I'll make one for me before sign up ends

You should definitely make one for yourself. In the first four rounds, I collected bird-themed pages and I am still working on a denim book to attach the bird pages. For this round (and subsequent rounds) I will use two purchased canvas blank books (I think I will deconstruct them and make one large book) to add my pages.

And there was a question in the New Swap Themes discussion about what to do with these and I agree with alwaysinmyroom - they are to be admired and touched and looked at. The pages I received the last time are interactive and they call out to be played with.

Hope that gets the crafty wheels turning!

What a great treat you've given us, Susan! Thanks so much for organizing another of these great swaps. Coming right after another round of prayer flags, it's going to be almost overwhelming to watch the Gallery unfold! I was thinking about binding the pages I've received so far, but there didn't seem to be enough yet, but this should make it into a proper little book. I'm going to get my prayer flags out of the way and then I'll sign up.

I want to remind people that if you are planning to bind your pages, be sure to let your partners know that you will need some blank space on the left to allow for binding. So, for instance, if I want a 4x6 size page, it needs to be 4-1/2 inches wide...I know some of my partners actually sewed down the side to remind themselves not to embellish that 1/2 inch. Other people will be mounting their pages onto something else, so they might not need the binding allowance.
