There have been a lot of neat music/cd swaps going on and proposed lately, so if this is too much like another one, I apologise.

My idea would be to make for one's partner a mix of songs that form something of a picture of your hometown.  This might include local bands (similar to this swap: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=21344.0 ) or songs about your area.  Maybe the song has subject matter that relates to where you live, or maybe there is some other connection that isn't even that obvious.  With the cd, you could include explainations of the connection of each track.

To top it off (and to help your partner visualize what being in X Town is like) swappers might be encouraged to work a picture or two of your city into the package - possibly as 'cover art' or in some other way.

Does this sound fun and different enough from other swaps to be worthwhile?

Could it be bands from the country I live in? I live in The Netherlands and we have some great home-grown bands - many sing in English too! I've never heard songs that relate to the city I live in, however.

That sounds really interesting. I think I'd participate (errm, but I'm still too "young", I mean, not even a month old on craftster, but if it starts later - why not?).. *whistling some songs about my home town*

I think from/about your country would be fine - particularly since you would probably have a partner who wouldn't have any knowledge of Dutch music at all, so why confine it to just one town?  Smiley

In any event, I think the music shouldn't just be restricted to bands from the same city as you.  as long as you can explain a connection, go right ahead!

avizzius: I don't see any problem with waiting until August starts to do the swap, in fact that might be better as it leaves more time for sign-ups.  By then, you'll be able to participate.

This sounds awesome. Count me in if you end up doing it!

And I want nothing more than to sit outside heaven's doors and listen to you breathing...

I am so excited that there seems to be some interest in this!

I will post a sign up thing soon (and report here when I have done so)

edited to add:  as I was filling out the organizer stuff, I was thinking - would there be any interest in doing this as a 'secret swap'?  since this is a cd swap about your town and everything, what you make will really be more about you than your partner anyway.  I would pair you with someone from a different geographic area, but you wouldn't know where/who until you got your package.  would that be fun or not-so-fun?
