I created this little painting for a blog hop last year called 'The Shadow of Oz' in which everyone participating created something evocative of the shadowy, dark side of Oz.
pottermouth professed a liking for it and so I gave it to her as an extra for the recent IYP.
The original drawing I did is here:  https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=438528.0
I've been playing with her image in Illustrator for a while...sort of an experiment to see how I can apply her to other projects....a way to come at art-making from a different direction to get myself out of an artsy slump.

Here is an explanation of where this version of her came from........
(Below is an excerpt from the blog post I wrote for 'The Shadow of Oz)

One of the most vivid memories I had as a child watching "The Wizard of Oz" was the gorgeous, but deadly poppy field. Even now, watching that scene unfold always gives me a shiver.
I think it's partly the way the Wicked Witch of the West murmured. "poppies, poppies...." as she cast her beautiful, awful spell.
The deep, rich color of the flowers, the swaying stems, the inevitable descent into slumber of Dorothy and her friends. It's surprisingly disturbing.
Shivers, I tell ya.

I always wondered, what would have happened to Dorothy if Glinda screwed up and made it rain instead of snow? What if she was distracted by misbehaving munchkins and missed the whole 'falling asleep in an opium poppy field' thing?
Maybe Dorothy woke up on her own a changed person. Maybe she found herself in a waking dream, forever altered, longing for home but unable to leave the field?

I also used this image (once again manipulated in Illustrator) for the doll, 'Odd...the Little Witch Girl' and various other incarnation of dolls, icons and collages. She is a wee bit of an obsession at this point because she is so familiar and yet so changeable.
I confess that The Red, Red Poppies is probably my favorite incarnation of her. This is what bounced me out of my slump and got me into painting again, so I'm fond of her. I know she has a good home with
my buddy pottermouth!

Wow. This post gave me shivers. I loved the painting when I first saw it in the swap gallery, but now knowing more of the story behind it makes it even better. This is just phenomenal.

Looking for poly-clay earrings: one bacon, one fried egg. Also, a mishmash of red/orange/gold bracelets--beaded, braided, bangles, whatever! If you have the supplies, let's talk! (Please?) I'll swap all kinds of things in return!

It's so beautiful. And the story behind the painting makes it that more meaningful. That pottermouth is a lucky gal.

I feel like I've won the lottery. Well actually, that's not true. Money has never made me happy but art has, and this art especially moves me. She is most treasured! Thank you dearly, cackle.
