I made these for my friend's children for Christmas last year. I had a really hard time finding a pattern I liked that included matching hat and mittens as well as being pretty customizable, but finally chose this one: http://www.cascadeyarns.com/patternsFree/C242_BandingTogetherHatMittens.pdf

Before I started knitting, I decided to use worsted weight yarn instead of the chunky yarn the pattern called for, because I made the sets for a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Also, I found a nice shiny soft yarn that was worsted weight, and couldn't resist the idea of a metallic effect. I also used a smaller size needle than the pattern called for, but in hindsight I wish I'd used the same, as the sets will fit perfectly this year, but won't be able to be stretched for another season.

Once I started knitting, I changed the mitten cuff to be longer, changed the stripe width, and added or left out stitches when casting on to change the size.

I finished them JUST in time to get them in the mail and they received them December 23rd!

GRYFFINDOR:

I looooove the Gryffindor one best. Wish I'd used silver for Ravenclaw, because the colours would have been amazing together!
