For my partner in the Woodland Creature swap, who's a Wind in the Willows fan. Embroidery and wax crayon.

As the proud recipient of this beautiful hoop, let me say its even lovelier in person!  I love the feeling it evokes of peaceful picnics be the water, listening to the birds chirp and sound of the water lapping against the boat!

Very cool arrangement!  I presume that the crayon is used to color the fabric?  I've never heard of doing that before--does wax adhere well to textiles?  Do you have to lightly iron it (i.e., melt the wax) to get it to set properly or something?

I love The Wind in the Willows, and this is such a sweet rendition of that scene. I can imagine it in a tiny frame on the wall of Mole's house.

The crayon colours the fabric quite subtly so its easy to build up the colour in layers (except one colour which must have been more pigmented than the rest). After a quick wash, the colours faded a tiny bit but it pretty much set itself. I lightly ironed it face down on freezer paper afterwards which takes off any excess and evens out the colour a little more.
