When you say “sustainability”, normally one of these three things pop to mind:

1. Buzzword. A word thrown around without any real backing, just to be a part of the “green trend”.
2. Tree Hugger. We’ve all come across these people. The hippies that no one can really relate to.
3. Guilt/Deflection. The problem’s too big to fix to make a difference. Someone else will do it.

As a result of this, it seems to have gotten a rather bad rep in society. So we started Refuture – a platform that helps people to rethink sustainability with the aim to make it mainstream.

We crowdfunded it on Indiegogo and successfully reached our goal (yay) so I’ve been making the campaign perks over the past couple of months.

Here’s a sneak peek of two of them…

Mystery Box of China: I'm an Aussie living in Shanghai - there are so many weird and wonderful things here and we wanted to share the experience with the rest of the world. Think ancient comic books, funny Chinglish purses, bottled Shanghai air, captioned photo collections, odd news & stories, strange things found on Taobao (aka. Chinese eBay), and last but definitely not least…breastmilk Hello Kitty soap.

Hand-Drawn Names: I created a series of hand-drawn names especially for the Refuture supporters (adults, children and even dogs) to be mailed directly to their doorstep. Hopefully a nice change from advertising flyers and unpaid bills.

It’s been a fun ride. First time posting any of my work, so I'd appreciate any feedback that you might have!

Awesome lettering and love the box of mystery idea. So much awesome weirdness out there (I guess especially in China? haha.)

Refuture sounds like such an awesome venture - I will have to check it out. Sustainabilty does seem overwhelming at times to an insignificant individual like me. Wink Good luck making a difference!!!

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

Thanks so much Abbeeroad, Onyxnox & pottermouth! I hope that the recipients like them too.

Refuture was one of those fun side things that we did, then it just snowballed. Sustainability is still overwhelming to me sometimes too, haha. Here's the Facebook page if you wanted to check it out: https://www.facebook.com/this.is.refuture.

Happy Friday, all!

I probably fall under the category of weirdo tree hugger to most people, although I think I have a long way to go in my own efforts towards sustainability. Love your mystery boxes and your organizations goal, will definitely be looking you guys up. Congrats on your indiegogo campaign!

Thanks a lot unicornsrpeople2 & kwality570! It's been really great fun, especially the mystery boxes.

I've been giving away hand-drawn names as gifts to everyone who signs up to my mailing list on my website, so I've been keeping busy with that. Keeps me practicing. Smiley
