My MIL started quilting and is taking class and has a birthday coming up. Any suggestions for quilt-making gifts? I do not what she has and have no stealthy way of finding out because we live in different states.

A fat quarter set of fabrics is always good! Do you know what her taste in fabric is at all?

Basic rulers that every quilter will probably want at some point would be a 5 inch square ruler, a 6 inch square ruler, a tri-rec ruler, EZ Dresden ruler, equilateral triangle ruler. Extra 45mm rotary blades are always welcome too! If you wanted to do a gift card, Fat Quarter Shop, Southern Fabrics, or Hawthorne threads always have a good selection of goodies to buy. Clover Hera Marker and a magnetic pin cushion or pin bowl are useful.

For books, 501 Rotary Cut Quilt Blocks is one of the most useful ones I have, and all of Elizabeth Hartman's books and stand alone patterns are great, her patterns are impeccable.

If you know her favorite colors/themes perhaps some fabric from www.equilter.com/
Perhaps some fabric so she can quilt some Easter placemats for the upcoming holiday.

Thanks! Whatever I get, I want her to be able to return/exchange it so I'll look at some pre-cut fat quarters and rulers!

Other suggestions or hints welcome!

Thread and batting.  Good scissors - large and small.
