Details of swap: This is the third (I think) Junker Jane-stayle doll swap. Who is Junker Jane? She is a Portland-based artist - more info here:
http://junkerjane.blogspot.com/p/bio.html

You make a doll based on your partner's preferences - the fun thing about these dolls is that the wide range of fabrics and embellishments you can use. In past swaps, swappers made cats, snakes, an octopus and other creatures and critters with many types of fabric and lace, stain, painting and found objects. Some folks prefer the grungy look while others have used bright and colorful fabrics. It is artist's choice ultimately but there is so much freedom to making these dolls.

Not a doll maker? That's okay, too. The limbs are often attached externally and the sewing can be sketchy and uneven, which adds to the charm of these creations.

For international partners (if we have some) - It is okay to send doll UNSTUFFED to save on postage. I know that postal rates in the US are going up in mid-January so this will help with postage.

If any of you have a sure-fire way to coffee or tea stain fabrics, please post some links here. I have tried several methods but I can't remember which ones I like best.

Yes, me too. what are the best teas? Roobios, black, strong coffee? What works best and is there anything to add that makes it set better?

This is going to be fun.

This site was helpful. It also suggested using alum or vinegar as a mordant to set the color.

I think the two I received were maybe 8 - 10 inches? I don't think there is a hard and fast rule. Plus the legs are usually uneven so one leg may add an extra inch or two!

I made a bigger one for the first swap, and in retrospect, I think smaller is better. It's easier to save and display.

This time I will be crafting much smaller. My stepdaughter and I were each making a Junker Jane last night. The junker part takes the pressure off making it perfect so you can just revel in the messy, raw creativity of it.

And thank you Ladybugs! I do like doll making Smiley
