I was commissioned by a lady to make a quilt for her out of her grand daughters old clothes. She sent me 9 outfits to work from but didn't specify how she wanted the quilt designed. Once I had the clothes in hand I was rather horrified to find out that not a single outfit looked good with the other one. 1 was leopard print, 1 was pink pastels, 1 was a sailor outfit etc. I struggled with how to put them together before deciding that each of them needed to be unique to itself but still come together as a whole. Desperate times call for desperate measure so I took to pinterest to see what inspiration I could find. Several hours and gallons of tea later I had a plan. I got the idea from a quilt that had a quilt of a kid flying a kite and another quilt of a heat from hearts. I decided to mesh the two and came up with the kid flying the balloon heats. Sadly my photo skills are somewhat lacking so it looks quite washed out. For the back I used scraps to create a kaleidoscope of colour to try to pull all the random outfits together. I finished with embroidering her name on the front. and embroidering on the strings to the balloons (cant see in the picture very well)

Thanks for sharing your thought process on how you came up with the design and the challenges you faced!

The heart balloons are fabulous and the little one holding the string is just the cutest thing!

I know this is going to be a loved treasure! Fabulous job!

You say "scientist or artist?" like they're mutually exclusive.
