My 9 yo son is a huge fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. He wanted to be Star Lord for Halloween and he insisted that his mask be diy. Every year I tell my kids I'm game to sew them any costume they can name, but I won't be persuaded to undertake any more crazy glue gun/plaster cast/papier-mch/styrofoam projects. Every year, they seem to talk me into leaving my comfort zone!

The mask is made from ski goggles, Pepsi cans, dowel pins, energy drink bottles, an egg carton, craft foam, and a ton of duct tape. The biggest challenge was making it comfortable and sturdy enough to be put on and removed many times. The jacket was thrifted and dyed with Meltonian leather spray. The blaster is a modified toy laser gun. The jet packs are craft foam and duct tape. I found the Walkman printable online and taped it around a "magic eraser."

I made a bunch of costumes this year and had a hard time choosing just one to enter (like many other craftsters, no doubt), but this mask was the challenge I found most intimidating and rewarding. Cheers!

That mask turned out fantastically! Way to get creative with supplies - you turned them into something that looks quite professional.
