This year while my husband popped out to scare trick-or-treaters in our haunted yard, I needed a more child friendly costume to hand out candy.  I went with the Disney version of Ursula.  I knew I would spend most of the time tramping through the front yard down to the end of the driveway to hand out candy to the kids who were too scared to go through the yard, and I needed a dress that was a little more practical that Ursula's va-va-voom bustier look.  So, I went with the fairly straightforward Simplicity 4015 pattern making some bust adjustments as I went along, and opting to make the princessy poof sleeves.  It's made from black suedecloth.

The tentacles are also made out of black suedecloth and purple quilting weight cotton.  I stuffed them with Polyfill, and tried to sew them into the waist seam of the dress.  I realized at the last minute they were too heavy (like 20 pounds heavy), and ended up making a belt, and pinning them to that instead.

Underneath I'm wearing black tights, and a lilac leotard and gloves.  I salvaged an old "mad scientist" wig from a previous costume.  And I mixed lilac and white creme paint for the face makeup.  I completed the look with a pair of purple shell earrings and Ursula's signature light up shell necklace.

And here's one last shot of the yard during the daytime.

Thanks for looking!
