When I applied for my current job, my put all my education on my resume, as you do. One of the things I went to college for back in the day (read: when the earth was young) was furniture design. That was 20 years ago, and I can't say I've done anything with it besides little things for friends and personal projects. So my boss comes to me and says, "You do furniture. I have a pair of chairs that need to be recovered. Will you do it?"

Now, at this point, I'm still on probation at work. I haven't got a contract yet. Thus I have no choice. "Sure thing! I can get it done for you."

This is the point when I started praying. Long story short, even though my job is a combination of office manager and auto shop rat, I believe it was my upholstery skills that got me the contract. Here's what I did:

I really like the lines of that chair and that colour fabric you chose - it looks great.  I wish you did a pre pic though.

I have a low back chair with somewhat similar arms that has been on my to-do list for awhile...  I hope mine turns out half as good as yours!

I did actually take pre-pics. Unfortunately, my phone went haywire and I had to re-set it before finishing the project, so those photos are lost forever. Oops.

My boss loves the chairs- he kept trying to give me excessive amounts of money for the job for a month after he got the chairs back. I was basically doing them for fun, so I didn't take much. Mostly I wanted these photos to build a portfolio with a view towards picking up more work on the side. I'd really like to do a business based on rescuing discarded furniture and making cool things out of it. (I'm terrible at marketing, and if anyone has good tips for me, I'd be grateful!)

I'm certain your chair will be awesome- you've got a gift for crafty things!
