I heard an interview with a American Colonist historian about what was most likely on the menu at the very first Thanksgiving and (get this) the protein was probably not turkey, but likely fish and venison. Well, we live in the woods and see deer all the time, so it seemed appropriate to go a bit more woodsy with our Thanksgiving decor*. For me, that included deer imagery and using my favorite metal: copper.

Individual pieces:

This is just artists and metallic acrylic paints.

This is a professional decorative painters' metallic plaster over acrylic paint.

Now it's time to set these aside and concentrate on the most wonderful time of the year: Halloween!

*We also see wild turkeys all the time, so I have started a small ceramic (and other media) turkey collection for Thanksgiving.

Nicely cut big head. I like this metallic plaster you used.

The 3D on the tiny one gives it some appeal.

They are both just blank wood pieces from the craft store which I meant to write in the original post, but forgot.

Your craft store is better than mine!

You have a great eye to find pieces that become yours after you worked on them. I like the idea of the copper paint. Copper look without the tarnishing, yeah!

Ha! These came from Michael's or Jo-Ann, right around the end of the year. Perhaps because I live in Montana they carry more taxidermy-inspired things! Wink

Thanks! Despite popular opinion, not everything DOES go with a fancy turkey, right?  Tongue

Fancy turkeys are so hard to pair things up with, cause you know, they are fancy.
