This round of the Harry Potter Craftalong has closed.  But never fear, crafty magic will always be found at Hogwarts, by those who seek for it.  Please check the Craftalongs board to find our current semester.

~Harry Potter Craftalong ~ Fall Semester 2015~

~*Begins September 1, 2015*~
~*Ends November 30th, 2015*~

Welcome to Hogwarts!
The Harry Potter Craftalong (HPC) is not your typical craftalong; we are gathered here to celebrate our love of crafting and the Wonderful World of Harry Potter.  In the HPC you will be completing classes and challenges with your skills in crafty magic.  These classes and challenges all have HP centered themes, but your crafts do not have to be Harry Potter."  Your mission, as a student at Hogwarts, is to complete at least one class or challenge during this semester.  You may join any time during the semester.  I hope you join us; the HPC is a great way to stretch your crafty muscles, meet HP crafters, and have fun!

~*HPC PROJECTS*~
---The HPC is here to help us each finish projects and to explore new challenges as we better our crafting skills.  Prompts and guidelines are there to help stimulate creativity and growth; the size and complexity of the project submitted should reflect a level of personal growth and challenge over the time you spend in the HPC.
---Projects for the HPC should represent your best crafty skills.  Take pride in your work.  Classes and challenges should take a minimum of 30 minutes to make.
---A project can only be submitted for one class/challenge (the same project cannot be entered in multiple categories) unless noted in prompt (it will be CLEARLY noted if allowed).
---Projects must be turned in within the timeframe designated by the type of assignment or challenge.
---For a project to be counted, it must have a picture or picture link included AT THE TIME OF POSTING.  If your item is a private piece, or is being kept secret for a Craft Swap, you are more than welcome to post a link for the Headmistress to view.  EDIT 4/17/15: As of today, I will no longer be posting reminders to folks about pictures.  I simply do not have the time to chase folks down for pictures.  If you post your project without a photo or photo link, it will simply not be counted when I tally House Points.
---For any cooking/food project, in addition to a photo, you must post a complete recipe, or link to the complete recipe you used.  No recipe = no points.  [EDIT due to questions: *For our purposes, a "complete recipe" means it includes a full set of ingredients that includes amounts, and step-by-step instructions that another HPC member could replicate themselves at home.  Think of writing your recipe with a beginner cook in mind, who needs full instructions.
---There is SO MUCH to do in the HPC.  Do not feel like you have to craft everything.  Think of the HPC as a "Choose Your Own Adventure".  Craft what inspires you, but don't try to do everything and get burned out.  Keep in mind these wise words , "It does not do to dwell on lists and forget to craft."

~*HOW TO TURN IN A PROJECT*~
For each assignment/challenge, use this header:
Class/Challenge/House Pride:
SPEW: (If your item is for charity, enter that here; if not leave blank or add n/a.)
House:
Project Name:
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques/recipe used, any fun tips, etc.)
Project Picture: (REQUIRED! NO PICTURE (or link) = NO HOUSE POINTS)

-Feel free to also include your house and any storycrafting you've created for your project.
---You can add more than one project to your post, but a header must be used for each project.
-When posting your projects, you are more than welcome to post more than one at a time. But if you do so, then please attempt to post your projects in alphabetical order by SUBJECT.  Bertie Bott's Beans, Detention Prompts, and Headmistress Challenges should be posted under B, D, & H respectively.  For more information, see this post.

~*HPC FAQs*~
---How long is a semester?  Semesters are as follows: WINTER- December, January, February; SPRING-March, April, May; SUMMER-June, July, August; FALL-September, October, November.
---When can I join?  You can join anytime in the semester.
---Do I have to sign-up to join this craftalong? No, all you have to do is post in the thread a hi or completed project post.
---How do I complete a semester/earn my year? To complete a semester/year, you only have to complete one class or challenge during the semester.
---What timezone do we use?  We use Headmistress Mistress Jennie's Central Timezone (Tennessee time).
---Do you sort me?  NO, you will decide which house you belong to, but you can only choose one.
---I have a problem or question; who can I ask?  You can send a Personal Message (PM) to Headmistress Mistress Jennie.  You can also ask specific questions to HPC staff.  And you can post your question in the thread; our students are very helpful!
---Can I turn in something I did earlier? With a very few exceptions the answer is NO!  You must complete your project during the current semester. Exceptions are Detention and OWLs; look for details about these projects in their information posts.
---Are we swapping? No, this is not an organized swap.  We are just encouraging crafting with a HP twist.  But if you enjoy swapping, keep an eye out for HP themed swap info in our thread.
---Do I have to craft all the classes and challenges? NO, you pick what you inspires you.  There is tons to choose from so choose your own HP Craft Adventure through the castle.
---What kind of projects are allowed for classes/challenges? If Craftster has a category for it, then it is a viable HPC project.  And since Craftster has a board for almost everything, your choices are vast.
---Does my craft project have to be Harry Potter themed? NO, if your item fulfills the class/challenge prompt, then it can be posted in the HPC.  Above all, we are here to encourage crafting.

~*House Points*~
~*Your triumphs will earn you points*~
Points System
15 points for a Class Assignment & Challenge*
100 points for OWLs
150 points for NEWTs
10 points extra for SPEW aka Charity Items

House Points Guidelines
--- *You cannot double dip for Class & Challenge points.  For example, if you turn-in a project for Herbology & Geminio, then you would get 2 badges but only 15 points for the project.
---You cannot get credit for a class or challenge twice.  For example, if you turn in 2 Alchemy projects, then you will only get points for the first one.
--- SPEW points are extra credit.  You can earn SPEW points for each project you turn in if it goes to charity.  You do not have to give the charity's name, just that you are donating to a certain cause.  (I happen to know that some Battered Women's Shelters don't like their names/locations posted.) SPEW projects must be clearly marked with SPEW to earn extra points.  I suggest adding it to your header.  Also, SPEW project can be turned in as stand-alone projects; they will earn 10 points.  Unlike most projects, you can turn in more than one SPEW project for points.
---HPC Challenge Points do not include House Challenges.  For Example, a Gryffindor Lion-along project would not count for points unless it also fulfills a HPC Class or HPC Challenge.
--- To determine House Cup Winner, an average from the points accumulated per house and the number of members per house.  If there is a tie, then more than one house will win the cup.  Note, a House Member is someone who has turned in at least 1 project.
--- Don't stress over House Points, but do craft your personal best. (This varies from person to person.  And I'm not really worried about "crafting your best" bit because HPCers are amazing crafters!)

The HPC is now on Facebook!  This is a way to share links, photos, or videos with your friends here in the HPC, that you cannot post on Craftster.  Please feel free to use the page to ask questions, share craft related or Harry Potter related links, pictures of your kids dressing up like Hogwarts students, or anything else that might be of interest to the group.  This group is Closed, so folks must message me with BOTH their Craftster username, and a way to locate you on Facebook, in order to be added. This is to keep it to just folks within the Craftalong, rather than a general HP forum, and anyone who participates here is welcome there as well.

~*Current Challenges*~

~*House Pride & House Unity*~
You can turn in as many House Pride or House Unity projects as you wish.  These are projects inspired by one of the Hogwarts Houses.  House Pride would be projects representing your house, and House Unity would be projects representing the other houses or a combination of houses.  They can be inspired by house colors, mascots, founders, heads, past members, house ghosts, etc.  Note you will get House Points on only 1 House Pride and 1 House Unity project per semester.

~*Fall Classes*~
---Alchemy:  Welcome to the Alchemy Classroom! This fall we are going to study Rose Windows. Rose windows are gothic circular windows shaped like a rose, mostly seen in stained glass in cathedrals. The rose window represents altered states of perception. To show your understanding of Rose Windows, please craft something inspired by stained glass windows, roses, the gothic time period, or something that can alter perception (either yours or someone else's).

---Apparition: The three D's to keep in mind when learning to Apparate are Destination, Determination, and Deliberation.  This semester we will be practicing Determination.  In order to Apparate successifuly and avoid Splinching, one's mind must be sufficiently determined.  The witch or wizard must focus completely on the desired destination and allow their determination to enter that space to fill their mind, to the exclusion of all else.  Demonstrate your ability to focus your mind in such a way by taking on a craft that requires single-mindedness and resoluteness of purpose for example, a craft with a deadline (such as a holiday or someones birthday) that will not allow for distraction, or a recipe that requires constant attention or by creating something that will help you or someone else practice determination (a recipe book for someone determined to eat healthy, a motivational card for someone facing a daunting task, etc.)

---Arithmancy: This term we study the use of numbers to describe curves. Muggles have a complex system for doing this called calculus; fortunately we do not have to use this as it will make your head ache! Your homework should be a project which includes curved sections of lines, or one which had caused your head to ache whilst working on it!

---Astronomy: Muggles are a fickle kind. They discovered Pluto in 1930 and considered it to be the ninth, and smallest, planet. In recent years astronomers have found numerous Pluto-like objects in the outer Solar System  - many of which are larger than Pluto. As a result, Pluto was reclassified in 2006 as a dwarf planet. On 14 July 2015, the "New Horizons" spacecraft became the first spacecraft to fly by Pluto.

Craft something that reminds you of Pluto, any teachings you've received about Pluto when attending Muggle school, something that is very small, something that begins with the letter "P" (painting, paper, party dress) or something that is "icy" like Pluto's surface.

---Care of Magical Creatures (CoMC):  Due to the dangerous nature of the creature we are studying this semester we will not have a hands on experience.   The Ministry of Magic has given the Nundu a beast classification of XXXXX. The most a creature can have, equal to the Acromantula!  The Nundu is a gigantic East African leopard that moves silently despite its large size.  Its breathe causes disease so virulent that they can wipe out entire villages, and it has never been subdued by fewer than a hundred skilled wizards working together.  For your assignment this semester craft something very large (a big painting, a quilt, or a very long scarf), something to combat disease during the coming cool months (soup or other comfort food, a cuddle buddy, or a tea wallet for on the go), or you can craft something that requires extra hands to complete your project (baking for a bake sale, or building a new patio, or organizing your yarn stash.)  ***Students curious about the low growling noise coming from behind Hagrid's cottage are warned to not go looking for trouble***

---Charms: School is in session again!  You're so excited that you asked Professor Flitwick to show you the charm that will flash all your writing in different colors!  Hopefully your other professors don't mind that you perfected it by practicing on all your essays...

Please craft something that flashes (has a light-up feature, has shiny or glittery bits that can reflect and "flash" light, etc.) or something that uses a material that has many colors (knit with variegated yarn, sew with variegated thread, use or make tie-dye fabric, paint a piece of paper in watercolors to use in a craft, etc.)

---Defense Against the Dark Arts (DADA): Autumn is descending, and that means it will be extra hard to spot the Red Caps amongst the falling leaves!  Make sure you tread carefully anywhere that blood has been spilled.  Please craft something that features the color red, something that camouflages, something that utilizes fallen leaves, or something to do with a battle or battleground.

---Divination: Please take out your tarot card decks and make yourselves comfortable.  This semester we are focusing our attention on the Major Arcana, which consists of 21 cards, each representing different aspects of human nature and experience.  The Major Arcana starts and ends with The Fool. In between are cards like The Emperor, The Lovers, and Death.  Each card has a picture that is filled with symbolism.  Each card also has a divine meaning and a reverse (upside down) meaning.  The Sun card is depicted as a naked child riding a white horse. The child is carrying a banner in its left hand.  There is a walled garden behind it that has four sunflowers looking toward the child instead of the sun that looks down from above.  The banner in the left hand stands for a passing of control from our conscious to our subconscious.  (meaning that something has become natural, or second-nature.)  The Sun card has meanings that include material happiness, success, and attainment. And achievements in the arts, sciences, and agriculture.  Reversed it can mean a clouded future or a possible loss of job or home. Craft something inspired by The Sun card.  This could include a craft that has become second-nature to you, or creating something for a child in your life. You could try making a meal completely with stuffs grown from your own garden (representing an agricultural achievement), or craft something to catch the sunlight.

---Flying: Fall is a smokey time of year in many parts of the world because of mundane tasks such as burning leaves, more exciting activities that call for bonfires, or simply because more people are using their fireplaces and stoves as the weather cools.  Witches and Wizards who take to the sky for transport should be aware of the hazards smoke creates, both for their lungs and for visibility.  Usual routes enjoyed in the Spring and Summer may have to be altered to avoid an uncomfortable experience.  For your flying assignment this semester please craft an item inspired by smoke (for example: its gray color, its wispy path upwards), something that is hard to see, or something inspired by fire.

---Herbology: Hagrid planted apple trees close to his hut a couple of years ago, and this fall will be the first apple harvest! We can't wait to see what Hagrid and the House Elves make with our new apple for the Halloween Feast this year!

For this semester I would like you to craft something that is "red", "yellow" or "green" (in color or any other association) or create something that contains apples in some shape or form. This could include a recipe with apples as the main ingredient, or an apple shaped pillow, or an apple themed hoopla.

---History of Magic (HoM): I have not failed. I have found 1,000 ways that won't work. - T. Edison
This semester in History of Magic, instead of focusing on the famous talented witches and wizards you all know, we will be focusing on the epic failures.  We only learn by failing, so these are some very wise wizards. On your way to class, check out the Tapestry on the 7th floor of Barnabas the Barmy. In his time at Hogwarts, Barnabas was known for his flair for the dramatic, and persistence in the eye of failure.  The tapestry features his ballet company made up of 8 trolls, dressed in sparkling tutus, surrounding their director with raised clubs. It seems that trolls make very temperamental dancers. It is unclear if poor Barnabas survived opening night, or emigrated to the states and changed his name to Barnum.

The glory is in the attempt. This semester you are encouraged to take a risk whether the project is successful or not. Alternately you can take a previous failure and attempt to repair it, or to find a new purpose for it. Maybe you can change up the ingredients in a failed potion, and this time it will work. Take that sweater you made that didn't fit right and turn it into a cushion.

---Muggle Studies (MS): Witches and wizards who venture into the Muggle world risk violating the International Statute of Secrecy if they are unable to blend in to Muggle society.  This semester we will be learning to disguise our magical nature while out and about in the Muggle world.  In particular, we will focus on Muggle clothing.  Muggles arent normally seen wearing robes and pointy hats!  Study Muggle fashions and craft an article of clothing, or something inspired by Muggle clothes, like a bracelet to match a particular Muggle shirt.

---Potions: This month we shall be brewing an elixir to induce euphoria. The effects of this potions are evident in its title, though it may also induce excessive singing as a side effect, wherein eating peppermint will help. Craft an item which is inspired by a song you like to sing (after all, if you practice first at least it may be more enjoyable for the rest of us). You MUST also include a small piece of peppermint in the project, indicated (for example) by use of mint color, flavor or scent, or an illustration of a peppermint leaf (other methods of including peppermint are also acceptable, but be sure to explain them in your post). If choosing this prompt, be sure to tell us what song you are singing and where we can find the peppermint to make you stop!

---Study of Ancient Runes (SoAR): The earliest runic inscriptions date from around 150 AD. The characters were generally replaced by the Latin alphabet as the cultures that had used runes underwent Christianisation, by approximately 700 AD in central Europe and 1100 AD in northern Europe. However, the use of runes persisted for specialized purposes in northern Europe.  Many have looked to runes for wisdom and truth.  One of the ways we pass on both wisdom and truth to future generations is through the use of proverbs.  There is an Icelandic one that we could all stand to remember: Ber er hver a baki nema sr brur eigi. Translation: Bare is the back of a brotherless man.

For this semester you must craft something for a family member or close friend.  Or, since we are all part of the brotherhood of man (or sisterhood of woman!) you may choose to craft an item for charity, to help clothe the back of a brotherless man (or woman) in your area.  Doing so will earn you a 10 point SPEW bonus, provided you donate to a legitimate charity.

---Transfiguration: Vanishment is a branch of Transfiguration, in which one causes things to Vanish. It is considered a particularly difficult branch of magic, and is taught in fifth year. It one of the hardest subjects to be tested on in one's O.W.L.  The incantation needed to Vanish any object is Evanesco , Latin for "disappear".  For this class, you must practice Vanishing by crafting something entirely from your stash, thereby causing your supplies to vanish.

NOTE: Once you propose, please go forth on your Advanced Studies projects.  Your Examiners will PM if they have any inquiries.

~Everything O.W.L.s and N.E.W.T.s~
---Ordinary Wizarding Levels, OWLs, and Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests, NEWTs, are advanced crafting projects.  OWLs and NEWTs are supposed to be more complex and challenging projects.
---OWLs and NEWTs are more time-consuming than HPC classes and challenges.  There is no hard and fast rule on how many hours a project should take, because speed and difficulty levels are too subjective.  What we are really looking for is a project that will be a personal challenge to you.
---OWLs should take 3-4 weeks to complete.
---NEWTs should take more than a month to complete. (Please see post below for more on NEWTs.)
---Projects that do not take the allotted time of crafting will not be counted as complete; keep that in mind when you post your completed OWLs and NEWTs.  If you finish your OWL or NEWT earlier than expected, then craft an additional item(s) that correspond with your subject.  Add notes on how you finished earlier than expected and details about your additional crafting in your Completed Project post.
---You must propose your OWL or NEWT before starting so that we may be your cheerleaders and help encourage you during this more challenging craft adventure.
---You may only do 1 OWL & 1 NEWT at one time.  (Dont want you to be stuck with a ton of OWL & NEWT WIPs!)
---You may propose an OWL or NEWT any time during the semester.
---OWLs and NEWTs can carry over to the next semester.
---If you decide to abandon an OWL or NEWT project, notify your OWL Examiners, and they will erase that log from their records.  Once you have submitted to have an OWL or NEWT erased, you can propose a new one.

~*HOW TO COMPLETE AN OWL*~
1. Select which OWL you would like to complete.  You may only do one OWL at a time so select carefully.
2. Propose what you plan on doing for your OWL project.  You may do this by PM to your OWL Examiners or by posting in the HPC thread.  When making an OWL Proposal, please use the header below, and make sure you give details such as methods using, materials using, plan of action, timeline.  These details will help us cheer you on and inspire future OWLs.
3. Begin work on your OWL project.  Feel free to add progress pics in the HPC thread.
4. Once your project is complete, post a picture of your project in the HPC; make sure to use the OWL Header provided below.  Once you post a completed OWL, your OWL Examiner will notify the Headmistress, and you will earn your OWL Badge for that subject.
GOOD LUCK!!

~*OWL EXAMS*~
--Alchemy:  Option 1-Alchemists have, through their mystical quests, made significant contributions to our world.  These include metalworking, production of inks, dyes and cosmetics, ceramics and glass manufacture, preparation of extracts and liqueurs and the invention of gunpowder.  Honor the work of these alchemists by creating something from one or more of these contributions.  Option 2-The Four Elements of alchemy are Fire, Earth, Air and Water.  Craft a project that represents all four of these elements.
--Arithmancy: Bridget Wenlock was a famous thirteenth-century Arithmancer, and the first to establish the magical properties of the number seven.  Your OWL quest is to turn in something that involves the number seven.
--Astronomy: Option 1-Craft a star chart.  Option 2-Interpret the solar system into a craft.  Option 3-It is believed that we can only see 5% of the universe, the rest is made up of Dark Matter and Dark Energy which is invisible to us. Create something where at first glance you can only see a small portion, but when you look closer you can find the rest of the details.
--Care of Magical Creatures:  Option 1-Even in the muggle world, we are surrounded by fascinating and breathtaking creatures.  Craft something inspired by an everyday animal you find magical.  Option 2-Dragons are terrifying yet awe-inspiring; craft something inspired by these magical creatures.
--Charms: Research the different charms and show your mastery of a particular charm by crafting something inspired by it.  For example, Alohomora is an opening charm; craft something that open or has an opening.  Another example, Confundus is a confusion charm; craft something you find a bit confusing.
--Defence Against the Dark Arts: Option 1-The patronus is an effective charm against dementors and to call for help when in need, though difficult to master. Craft something using or inspired by your patronus animal.  Option 2-Craft something inspired by one of the DADA professors.
--Divination: Option 1-Create at least 4 items you need for a successful reading.  Option 2-Create a dream item.  Option 3-Create something inspired by the zodiac.
--Herbology:  Research magical and mundane plants, and show your knowledge by creating something inspired by one or more plants that could be found in a wizards or witches garden.
--History of Magic: Option 1-Create 4 different items, one item for each house, these items should reflect your interpretation of the characteristics of each house.  Option 2-Craft 3 items which represent 3 characters with Harry Potter.   Option 3-Craft something using a vintage pattern, material, or technique.
--Muggle Studies: We all know the Tales of Beetle Bard, but did you know that muggles have a vast array of fantastical stories?  The most fascinating are known to muggles as fairy tales.  Study these tales and craft something inspired by them.
--Potions: Option 1- Show off your ability to work with many ingredients by showcasing at least 3 different colors/pattern/textures.  Colors can be monochromatic.  A variegated yarn or one fabric swatch with various colors within it count as one color.  Option 2-Research different potions and show your mastery by crafting something inspired by it.
--Study of Ancient Runes: Option 1-Use an intricate charted design; you may create your own design for this project.  Option 2-Create something that contains 7 or more letters/symbols.  Option 3-Create a set of runes; these can be presented in one or more pieces.
--Transfiguration: Option 1-Practice your vanishing and conjuring spells by taking a large amount of supply and crafting one piece.  Option 2-Craft something with a dual purpose.  Option 3-Craft your Animagus.

The Quest for the Philosopher's Stone

A series of craft challenges for the winter semester

In this quest, 10 challenges will be posed, which you may tackle as an individual or as part of a team. Once announced, each challenge will be open until the end of term, and players (or teams) must complete each challenge in the order they are revealed. Anyone who completes all the challenges (alone or in a team) will win a real life prize, to be revealed once the prototype is made  Cheesy

Teams...
you will have the option of working in TEAMS of up to 3 people for this challenge, reflecting the way team Potter / Weasley / Granger worked as a team and used their different strengths to work through challenges together!
 - You DO NOT have to be in a team. You can play as an individual, a pair, or a trio.
 - As a team, you must complete each challenge in order, for example maybe Person A from your team will do the first challenge, then person B the second, and so on. Alternately, maybe you will decide to all contribute to a challenge, by making individual parts then sending them to one member to assemble. How exactly each team distributes work is up to them to negotiate on
 - your teammates do not have to be in the same house as each other; this is about working together and not letting petty divisions of house divide us! For each individual prompt completed, the specific team member who finished it will receive the house points, and the whole team will progress along the challenge. for prompts. In situations where you craft in unison with members of different houses, each house will recieve points.
 - you will need to DECLARE YOUR TEAM before you complete the first prompt!
 -  feel free to come up with a team name, or logo, chant, secret handshake or anything like that if you want to Cheesy

List of teams and their completed challenges:
The Witches of East Hogsmede (Mistress Jennie, Abbeeroad, FibreAlchemist):; #1 sneaking out, #2 facing fluffy, #3 plant pains, #4 kaos with keys, #5 Chess-test, #6 Trolltastic, #7 Potion Problems, #8two troubles, #9 Mirror mire, #10 final fight MISSION COMPLETED

Submitting Challenges...
each challenge will have a number associated with it, to help you know what order to complete them in. Please include the number, and your team, in the completed challenge header.
Please also include the house which should be credited with house points; in most cases, if you are submitting a craft you ave made, this is your house.
If your team crafted together, you only need to submit the project once; list all contributors and their houses... and if the same house should be credited twice (if you have two contributing members from one house), list it twice!

Something like this is fab:

Challenge: PS #1
SPEW: if applicable
House: Ravenclaw
Team: Noodle and the imaginary players
Project: a thing I made
Picture: oh, shiny

or

Challenge: PS #5
SPEW: if applicable
House: Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw
Team: Noodle and the imaginary players
Contributors; noodle, imaginary friend, this penguin
Project: a thing WE made
Picture: oh, shiny again

All of the usual HPC rules about minimum crafting time, crafting to your best, and generally being your excellent selves, apply here too. PS Challenge project cannot be combined with other classes or challenges, but they earn 15 house points with an optional 10 extra SPEW points where applicable!

Prizes
True story, real life prizes will be posted to every member of every team that completes all the challenges and finds the Philosopher's Stone by the end of semester. The nature of the prizes will be revealed once the prototype in made (it definitely won't be a stone that enables immortality. Sorry.)

Of course, you can also claim a badge for every challenge your team complete!

PLEASE JUST ASK IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS
Cheesy
I rarely bite so don't be scared

Challenges
will be revealed here through out the term

PS#1; Sneaking Out
Our intrepid questers (that's you!) need to sneak out of their common rooms - - and you need to avoid alerting any uninvolved housemates, teachers, ghosts, portraits... For this challenge, craft something with a hidden element - this could be a double meaning which only certain people will perceive, or a section of the craft which must be physically revealed (eg a lift up flap, a lining seen when inside out)
Remember - if you plan on doing this challenge as part of a team you MUST announce your team before you start!

PS#2; Facing Fluffy
You must face the beast, and best all 3 of his heads, to move on. Craft something in 3 parts; this can be 3 parts of a set (hat and 2 mittens, or bracelet necklace and ring) or one item with 3 distinct elements

PS#3: Plant Pains
You landed bum first in a devil's snare?!! Only flames will get you out; craft something requiring the application of heat or light; this could be using an oven, kiln, or heat tool - or use light to make patterns on photo sensitive fabric (for

PS#4: Kaos with Keys
Faced with a room full of keys, you luckily realise that the one you need to find will already have been used - celebrate the usefulness of old objects by recycling in your craft; use an item which would otherwise be thrown away or unused

PS#5: Chess-test
Confronted with a giant, and potentially deadly game to play, your only option is to keep moving forward towards that stone... Think black and white to create a monochrome project for this challenge (your craft can be any colour - but only ONE colour, plus white)

PS#6 Troll-tastic
That Troll is already unconscious! You get a free pass; Craft any item to move on

PS#7 Potion Problems
Hmm, this deathly logic puzzle could pose a problem; practice on something less lethal first by creating something that requires careful flying of a tutorial or pattern

PS#8 A Tale of Two Troubles
Woah, wuzzy Quirrell has Voldemort's face on his head! I bet you didn't expect that! Conquer both by crafting something that incorporates two things you wouldn't normally see together - this could be a unique colour or flavour combo, or an unusual juxtaposition of materials, themes or motifs

PS#9 Mirror Mire
You need to figure out how to extract the stone from the Mirror of Erised - reflect on your desires and craft something based on what you see

PS#10 final fight
In the final face off with the back of Quirrell's head, the whole thing comes down to the protective power of Love, freely given to you. Keep those bonds strong by making something to show a loved one what they mean to you

Badges
Please help yourself to badges for the challenges you complete Cheesy

Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans
A risk with every mouthful!

"You want to be careful with these. When they say every flavor, they mean every flavor - you know you get all the ordinary ones like chocolate and peppermint and marmalade, but then you can get spinach and liver and tripe. George reckons he had a bogey-flavored one once." - Ron Weasley

Its no secret that Hogwarts students love sweets.  And teachers, Headmasters & Headmistresses have been known to enjoy their share of treats too.  Therefore, your brilliant Headmistresses have devised an epic new *series* of Mini-Challenges for you.

Every two weeks we will pull a new bean out of the bag.  Each bean will be the inspiration for a mini-challenge.  Students may complete and post a craft based on that theme to earn 15 House Points, and a Badge for that challenge.  Once a new challenge is posted, you have until 11:59 Central time THE SAME DAY to finish posting the "old" bean.  Items posted after that can earn Badges, but no House Points  As with all things in the HPC, you are welcome to do any, all, or none of these challenges.  They are just a way to inspire your own magical crafting adventures.

*If the Semester ends before the Bean's two week span is over, the Bean will continue into the new semester.  You may only enter your Bean project in *one* of the semesters.

And this weeks bean is...
LEFTOVERS!

Leftovers.  Some people love them, and others hate them, but we all know we should use them up before they go bad.  For this challenge you must craft something that uses up a leftover craft supply from a previous project AND you must note what previous project the supply came from.  Have a single skein of yarn leftover from making an afghan?  Knit up a simple scarf from it!  Have some great paper bits and bobs leftover from your last scrapbooking adventure?  Try making a few greeting cards with them.  Have some extra apples from canning a batch of applesauce?  Create an apple crisp for dessert!  Just don't forget to tell us what supply you are using up, and what it was leftover from.

~*Detention in the Dungeons*~

This semester there will be three Detention Challenges, one for each month.  You are welcome to do any, all, or none of these challenges.  (Remember, they are just here to help get your crafty juices flowing!)  All Detention projects are worth 15 House Points and may be turned in anytime during the semester, regardless of what the newest Challenge is, up until the semester ends on February 28th.  (For example, you may turn in December or January challenges in February.)

September Challenge:
Prof. Trelawney has caught you reading Witch Broomstick? under the table during class, and given you Detention.  You've been tasked with dusting all the crystal balls in her classroom tonight.  Little does she realize that you learned quite a few cleaning tricks while cleaning #12 Grimmauld Place. While she's busy divining the cards in her office, you are free to work on that essay for Snape.  For this challenge you must complete a Work In Progress. (WIP)

October Challenge:
Umbridge, that horrible nag, has sent you to Prof. McGonagall with a note about how you called her a liar in class.  You're sure Prof. McGonagall will go mental when she reads the note. Surprise! She hauls you into her office, only to offer you a biscuit! For this challenge you must craft either an edible tea-time treat, or something to decorate the tea table.
And just for fun....  a recipe for Ginger Newts!

November Challenge:
For this challenge you must complete a Work In Progress. (WIP)
