Crafting to keep insanity at bay.

I made this piece for artsycandice in the 27th round of the IYP. She loves woman figures and winged things so I combined the best of both worlds. I attempted a sort of ombre effect with the background too to give it more interest  Smiley It's approximately 24 x 36 inches I think.

EPIC.  Stupendous.  Wonderful.

I've wanted to make one of these for a while, but it seems to constantly be on my to-do list.  Now I want to make one of my own!

Do you start with a pattern/shape drawn out on your foundation piece, and then slowly layer in the pieces?

This is one of my most favorite projects that you have made!

It really shows off your fabric and art skills and is simply just gorgeous!

Of course, the red color is a plus since it is my favorite color... Grin.

Wonderful that you are finally sharing it for more people to see!!!

Thanks everyone! I think I didn't post it originally just because I was a goof and didn't take a lot of pictures so I didn't think it was much of a bother to be posting.

Do you start with a pattern/shape drawn out on your foundation piece, and then slowly layer in the pieces?

Hi JoyfulClover! I start with a pattern of my basic shapes. I try to start in the middle and work outward so that my fabric remains as flat and even as possible, so for this one I filled in the shape of the woman first, then worked on the wings, and then did the background last. However with this one, I worked from bottom to top on the background portion so I think that's why the top area got a little wonky in the end. But I still like how it turned out.

I'll try to remember to take step by step pictures next time I do one of these to show what I'm talking about.

I love these "ticker-tape" quilts! The combination of the rich red and black figure with the almost newspaper-ish background is brilliant. Kiss
