I made this piranha plant by felting around a styrofoam ball that I had cut a wedge out of. Fibre doesn't actually stick to styrofoam, so I wrapped the ball in felt strips and then poked it until it was tightly attached to itself. Once I had the felt base, I needle felted over it. The teeth and leaves are also made from a felt sheet, and the stem is felt strips wrapped and felted around a chopstick.

The plant is hot glued onto the bottom of the paper mache pot which I had painted green and then I stuffed yarn into the pot which keeps the plant standing upright. The entire thing is about 30cm (12 inches) from top to bottom and my parents thought it was store brought which was a nice compliment! ^___^

She's lovely. Is it Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors?

Outstanding piece, and putting the fabric over a styrofoam ball was a clever design choice!

@elderflower:  Piranha Plants are creatures from the Super Mario Bros. video game series.  They pop in-and-out of vertically-orientated pipes to bite the protagonist(s).

That's so fun! Love the "soil" it's planted in Smiley - also, people would always tell my mom "oh, it looks like store-bought!" as it was the best compliment ever Cheesy, cause things made with machines and by other people, are definitely better than handmade by us Cheesy

Well done, looks great! Smiley

Thanks elderflower! Piranha plants and Audrey really *do* look similar, don't they? ^____^

Thank you Patraw; I find styrofoam to be really useful when I want to make larger pieces and don't want them to be solid fibre ^___^

Wow! Thank you rackycoo!!

It's kind of a funny compliment, isn't it petskin? I know my parents mean well though; whenever I cook something particularly well, my dad always proclaims it is "better than a five-star restaurant!" so I assume they mean "made by a professional", which is lovely for an amataur like me to aspire to ^____^ But, I agree, handmade things are better ~____^
