If you've ever asked yourself, "Hmmm, how could I recycle this thing-a-ma-bopper into a cool craft project??" then you need to check out bookstorebabe's work for inspiration! She is a wizard at transforming the everyday into extraordinary and for that reason, we're thrilled to recognize her as our latest featured artist for the Miscellaneous category!

Take a minute to admire some of her work in Miscellaneous and read a little bit more about her crafty style!

How long have you been crafting? What's the first thing you remember crafting?
The first things I remember is working on crafts in girl scouts. Sewing sit-upons, making presents for our moms, ect. And I would get so mad because my mom was also my troop leader, so there was no way her gift could be a surprise. And I still have a pair of metal scissors that I used in first grade.

Telsa on a Circuit Board

What's your favorite media to work with?
Mixed! I love messing with paint and glue, I am truly happy when my hands are a mess. I can't draw or paint to save my life, but I love blending colors and making backgrounds. And I love using stuff like rusty bits of metal, old computer parts, just random ephemera.

Gear Box Shrine

What inspires you?
Everything. Looking at what people post on Craftster, pinterest, ect., craft and art books, and just taking a walk down my favorite street I come back with ideas. Honestly, I think working with recycled materials inspires me! I can't afford to go to craft stores often, so I'm forced to think 'what can I make with this?'

His and Hers Rayguns

Do you have a creative philosophy?
Cheaper than therapy! I think being creative in some fashion, any fashion, is so important. It doesn't matter that it's not great art-just engaging my brain to think about it, and my hands to make it makes me feel better. I started seriously posting on Craftster when my husband was recovering from a stroke followed by congestive heart failure, because I needed the distraction. Everyone was so encouraging when I posted my first attempts, when I joined my first swap...it gave me confidence.

Rocket Ship

What's your favorite creation you've posted on Craftster?
Oh, what to choose! My favorite thing is usually my current crafty obsession, and I have so much fun with the rayguns. But if I have to choose, it's a tie between the jewelry covered mirror I made for my little sister, and the chain mosaic.

What's your favorite item on Craftster created by someone else?
Arrgh, how can I choose? Sorry, I can't. There's too much awesomeness here, and I have soo many craftster crushes. I especially love a lot of the mixed media shrines that have so much detail!

Leaf Box

Tell us more about your username!
I spent years as a bookstore clerk, even managed the children's department for a while, so, Bookstorebabe! And even though that's in the past, my idea of a great date is to make the rounds of the used bookstores, so it still kind of fits!

Raygun Rack and More

Thank you for sharing more about your crafty background and for being such a prolific and creative member of Craftster, bookstorebabe!

*scuffs foot* Aw, thanks!
I am tickled to death to be featured, thank you so much!
Hee, once I get my computer replaced I need to update one of those posts-I decided the rocket ship thingy needed some planets, so I added some to the background.  Cheesy Thank goodness I can borrow mrbookstorebabe's computer, or I'd be having Craftster withdrawal!

Count me as a long time admirer!

I just love all of your mirrors and what you can do with old jewelry...

And, is there anyone in the world who has made more ray guns than you? Cheesy

Your imagination and your execution have inspired me and so many others!

Congrats on being featured...more people should know of your quirky and fun projects! Kiss

Hee! Well, the rayguns don't stay with me. Good thing, too, or I would have run out of wall space years ago!
Thanks, always.

Rayguns and mirrors are two things I never would have thought about turning into art but you always do such a masterful job that I find myself looking at your projects repeatedly. Each time I do new details catch my interest. If you can affect someone that easily with just photos of your work, I can only imagine what a real life encounter would be like. Congratulations are well deserved!
