I just finished these two pieces from one of my favorite shows, Archer!  Cheryl is in a 8" hoop, Seamus is in a 7".  As you can see, the fabric looks a little bunchy around the words.  Halp?  I think it must be the fabric tension when I'm stitching, I'm thinking maybe it's too tight but I am open to input! The rest seems okay though, both were stitched with the same fabric tension for both lettering and the image.

Are you using stabilizer on the back? If so, maybe you need heavier stabilizer or even press on fusible webbing before setting stabilizer? The fabric is laundered prior to stitching? Try removing from hoop and pressing before trimming fabric back? So many ideas floating through my head.
Good job on the projects, they look great.
