I got married on my birthday in july. It was a very relaxed and fun outdoor wedding at my husband's family's farm. We really tried to do everything ourselves, including making the cake, the dress, the beer, all the decorations, the invites, transforming a barn into a reception hall and even shooting geese for the dinner.

The barn we held the reception in had a dirt floor so we built a temporary floor out of pallets and plywood. (with some help from the dogs)

I made some signs to help our guests find their way.  (it says: camping site, ceremony and reception. Surprisingly many guests decided to camp with us)

We lined the walls with birch from a nearby forest and some white christmas lights. We used balloons for a photobooth backdrop

The tables were decorated with candles and some flowers I picked around the farm. I put them in jars I had been slowly collecting and cleaning the months leading up to the wedding.

I bought a couple of flower bouquets at the supermarket and made my bridal bouquet.

We made a wedding arch out of birch and set it up so that the guests would have a view of the lake (again with some help from the local animals).

Emil the sheep was especially interested in the champagne Smiley

My husband and I wanted to arrive to the ceremony together so my dad built us a tandem bicycle for our "grand entrance"

I made my own dress, the craftster post is at: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=436364.0

We were just going to have a playlist but a few of our friends formed a band just a few days before the wedding and they were absolutely amazing. Although the my husband and I left the party at 4 am (with sore feet and BIG smiles) the last guests didn't stop dancing until around 7 am.

Icelandic dance "kokkurinn"

I baked three separate cakes with lemon, orange and strawberry flavors. And you can also see the traditional icelandic "kransakaka" my sister-in-law made for us.

Finally I made some simple props for the photobooth which was a big hit. We got over 600 images of our 70 guests

I am a nursing student so we had a very small budget, but I feel that by doing so much ourselves and with the help of our amazing family and friends the wedding reflected us and our personalities perfectly.
Hope you guys liked it

Such a beautiful wedding in its simplicity.  And all the help from family and friends makes it so much more special.  Congratulations!

I love those DIY family weddings.  I just feel too that it bodes very well for the success of your future married life.
It is sad when one hears of couples who say they can't get married until they have saved up 10,000 for the wedding.  Better to save the money as a foundation for the future and make a wedding the old-fashioned way as you have done.  Your dress is lovely and the setting for the ceremony just idyllic

I love it!! I think these kind of weddings are the best! I agree that you better use all that money for something else, more useful. I love handmade, and this is all handmade with love and with family and friends.  Smiley

I commented on the dress already, it is just lovely.

Thanks a lot for sharing, gefeliciteerd (=congratulations in Dutch) and be so proud of your wedding!!  Cheesy
