I have been knitting a series of hats inspired by Kubrick's "The Shining". The carpet pattern from the 2nd floor of the Overlook Hotel is probably the most iconic image from the film - where we see Danny riding his big wheel through the halls.

This is an easy knit for anyone who has done strand color knitting before. Just cast on 96 stitches, knit a couple inches of ribbing, then follow the chart. You can decrease however you like, starting with row 28. The chart represents 1/4 of the hat, so I suggest placing markers every 24 stitches. I knitted this with Cascade 220, using the magic loop method.

Let me know if there are any questions. I'd love to see other versions of this, if anyone decides to knit this up!

Thanks for sharing this!  This is one of my hubby's favorite movies ever!

I find myself honing in on various yarn projects possibilities when I watch movies or TV...your hat is so interesting!

I definitely would like to try this!

Give it a whirl! It could also be knitted flat, using intarsia rather than strand method. It's easier than it looks, I promise.

This would be fabulous even without the movie reference.

Thanks, LimeRiot! I think I could knit 72 hats from this movie, so I had to really limit myself. Your crafty blog is fantastic - I've got to figure out this bloglovin' thing so I can follow people who are not on wordpress with me.

I'm only on the second season of Cosby, so that series might take me a decade to complete. Some of them are already complex enough to give me a headache!
