I made this for Cabaute in the Fabulous Faux Taxidermy Swap. The idea started out great but the end result was not exactly what was in my head. I sculpted a fox head in plasticine (an oil-based, non-hardening clay) then covered the head in Vaseline, then in several layers of plaster wrap. When the piece firmed up a little I had to cut it off of the plasticine sculpture. Then, I had to carefully line up the seams and reassemble the head. I had cut it into four pieces to get it off the clay. Once completely hardened it can be painted. I meant for it to wear any accessory whether it be a string of pearls or a snazzy tie. This was a bit of a learning experience for sure.

Thanks Suereal! It was meant to be a bit androgynous. Cabaute likened it to Eddy Izzard which was fine by me. I love that man!

I think it is fabulous!

I never heard of the materials you talked about, so this is new to me...thanks for sharing your experience.

You have quite a skill for painting eyes...they are very expressive!

Aww, thank you!

Plaster Wrap (Rigid Wrap) is essentially a fabric-like material coated in plaster. You cut strips from it (I cut those in half too) and make a little pile. Take one piece at a time to get it wet and apply it to your form. It's much like paper mache but is a quicker process.

Yayy!!  So glad you put up this post.  I've been wondering about your technique, would love something a little easier to work with than the Paper Mache Clay that I was using!
