So a friend of mine who loves my Labyrinth door knocker earrings asked if I could do a life sized version of them. Why not I thought to myself! I always enjoy a challenge. 15 hours later and about $50 in supplies...

My husband kept saying he was sorry to see them go but I promised him I would make a set for our home for Halloween decorations and now that I've tackled it once, I am positive that I can do it a second time even better.

A little tidbit on how I made them. I got wooden plaques from the craft store to sculpt onto. I used an aluminum foil armature as a large starter and covered in a thick layer of polymer. Then I slowly started to add the details in- the cheeks first, the noses, the mouths and eyes, the ears and horns and then all the swirly detailed parts around the edge. I dusted it all with gold pearlized powder and since I used black clay, it gave it the start to a wonderful metallic base. I followed up with a dry brushing mix of gold paint and copper toned paint all over. I had originally wanted a thicker wire or something for the knocking part but it didn't work out. Next time around I plan on using some pex tubing and heating it to make it flexible and shaping it clamping it for a few hours to cool completely so that it can be used instead of wire. On these, I couldn't do much of a heavier weight wire because it would be difficult to shape without metal working tools which I don't have. And the donut looking piece at the bottom of the wire was a sort of quick thing as I didn't have time to do a very detailed bit and after 15 hours, I was kind of at the end lol. But it turned out well in my opinion. I used 4- 8 oz blocks of premo black polymer clay for this! Next time I think I will make them a bit bigger if I can find bigger plaques and will probably use one or two more 8 oz blocks. Feel free to comment, critique or ask questions.

Amazing!! I'm in the Halloween spirit and wishing I had one of these to hang on the door for the trick-or-treaters. Really great work.
