I am about 95% convinced I'm going to join...but my list will take some time.  My research books are at home and I am not, so I can't just look to see what I want, I'll have to do some searching.  But with Smed going all zombie for the weekend, that gives me some time to think Grin  Now I wish I could binge watch Destination Truth (US Netflix has it, as does Hulu I think..)Grin

I'm going to add Aye Aye's and African Wild Dogs to my list...

Along with Okapi, these are all real animals. I'm a little confused. Are they animals that were once thought to not exist? Manatees were mistaken for mermaids and narwhal were call unicorns in early sailing days. I thought that cryptids were creatures like Big Foot, Nessie, chupacabra, etc. I'm just trying to understand what all fits into this category. (I love Aye Ayes!)

Yes, they were once thought to be cryptids.  Except for the sect of Wild African Dogs that I'm speaking of.  The sect of Wild African Dogs I'm speaking of, it's existence hasn't been proven or disproven yet.  Tasmanian Tigers are considered an extinct cryptid.  Aye Aye's and other members of the lemur family, are actually considered to be ghosts by native people.

Lemurs aren't a mythical creature and were never considered as such. Here is a snipit about them that might prove helpful to anyone confused.

'Few animals spark human imaginations as much as the lemur. Among the Malagasy people of the species native Madagascar, lemurs are thought to contain the souls of their ancestors. These elusive creatures populate Roman mythology, and even the word lemur is mystical in nature: it derives from the Latin word lemures, which means ghosts or nocturnal spirits.'

While it is considered mystical it is not mythical so not a cryptid. If you want to read more, and learn a bit about the aye aye as well here is a link to some good info. http://animals.sandiegozoo.org/zoonooz/souls-spirits-and-prosimians-legendary-lemurs

I wont get to join this swap this time around, I just like to read the conversations Tongue but I hope you all have tons of fun!^^

Yes, I knew that native people believe the spirits of their ancestors live in lemurs.  It's not hard to believe, just looking at those eyes, and listening to their calls.   Grin  I was saying the sect of Wild African Dogs I was talking about is considered a cryptid.  Because there is no proof as to whether or not they exist.
