My husband gave me two polo neck tshirts recently, from a job he did 2 years ago. In between he used them for painting.
So when I cut my pattern I had to dealt with : avoid the brand, avoid the stains. But they were large, so it works.

I made this for a competition which says :
create a piece inspired by an art piece. I chose Matisse, because I love the birds, I love the blue, I love the simplicity. So I used this technique I love : reverse appliqué, and birds, my co-favourite symbols, with trees.

It's sewn by hand, entirely, without a machine. It's the spirit Alabama Chanin, and I love it ! The pattern is in her last book, the dark blue one.

The corset is a bit low on the neck line, so I'll redraw it next time. The sleeves are a bit funny too, but that I could sort it out directly.

That is so gorgeous! It fits you beautifully, and the colors together are amazing. It's a wearable top and also a piece of art! SUCH an excellent job. I have been wanting to try reverse applique for a while but I'm terrified of it. But I might just give it a shot now...thanks for the inspiration!!!

Also, I LOVE your hair. Smiley

Beautiful piece and so impressive that you did it all by hand.

Thank you so much for your positive responses Smiley

Sewing by hand is for me just an organisation : each time I take the subway, the train, each time I wait in a waiting room, or in front of a film, I stitch. So my project do get done quite quickly.

Thanks for the hair VG, but they're not mine, they belong to a friend. I'll pass along the compliment though....
