I've always been interested in trying book binding and finally took the leap with this project! I was inspired by this tutorial and my awesome IYP swap partner.

This required a whole stack of grocery bags which I've been hoarding under the sink for months! To reduce the folds and get the crinkled look, I soaked the cut pages in water, squeezed them into a ball and then hung them to dry outside. Once dry, I ironed them flat before folding them into the book signatures.

There are a lot of pages that are plain and can be used for writing or art journaling or scrapbooking or whatever! But I like the pages that have little tattoos that show where they came from Smiley.

Coptic stitch was new to me. I was a bit messy in my execution of it but I think it ended up fitting the sloppy look of the journal so let's just say I meant it to be that way Smiley.

I embellished the cover with cheese cloth, buttons and linen that I stamped with simple carved house stamps I made a while back.

I had so much making this and I'm filled with other sloppy book ideas!!

I love making journals from bags and the little reminders they add - this one looks great, I love it.

I found I just have to keep practicing with the stitching, mine gets a little tidier each time.  Grin

Love the brown bag-giness of it and your personal style on the cover.

Thanks so much!

Smaart - I love brown bag-giness! I'm working on rebuilding my paper bag hoard now.

In Seattle, you have to pay for bags at the grocery store so they are a hot commodity Smiley.

I like the crumply texture of the paper & how you created the cover. Way to upcycle!

Yes, in San Francisco also. I ask my sis in New Hampshire to save bags for me and include them when she sends packages my way! I actually bought a pack of 500 bags from Costco, but they are smaller than shopping bags.
Let me know if you need some - I have brown and white.

Ahhh! My gorgeous journal!
It's so beautiful and I love the texture and overall style so much! I have great plans for it, hopefully I'll get to show some parts of it One Day.

*rocks for sure!*
