I just finished this crocheted rag rug for Abbeeroad in the Invite Your Partner Round 26 Swap.  I was inspired by this beautiful rug from the blog Olino Hobby, which uses worsted weight yarn, crocheted over tee-shirt yarn. Unfortunately, the blog is in Russian. Though I translated it with Google, the tutorial was not understandable in translation, and the tutorial did not give any sort of numbers of stitches per row, or how much to increase each succeeding row.

After attempting to wing it, and ripping it all back out, I searched for another round crocheted rug pattern, and found one on K & J Dolls Blog. The K & J pattern did not include crocheting over tee shirt yarn, but it did use single crochet stitches and gave regular increases.  I used the K & J pattern, but crocheted each stitch over the tee shirt yarn, per the photos in the Olino tutorial.

By the time I got to the end of K & J Dolls pattern, my rug was not large enough, so I expanded the pattern in case other English-speaking hookers want to make one.  I stopped crocheting at 40 across which was done with 47 rounds, but Ive included instructions so you can go up to 60 rounds.

It is made with 3 balls of black tee shirt yarn, 1 ball of turquoise tee shirt yarn, 1 ball of teal tee shirt yarn, and 1 skein each of I Love This Cotton! in black, dark purple, grey, and ombre teal/turquoise/grey.

Pattern translated & expanded upon by Mistress Jennie, with all design inspiration from Olino Hobby and pattern inspiration from K & J Dolls.

I'm not sure how many hours it took.  Worked on it a bit each day for about 2 weeks.  Smiley

Great! The way the shirts are different colors than the yarn really makes it much more interesting. Crocheting OVER the tshirts is a great idea! You did a fabulous job and I agree that it looks very comfy indeed.

It's so beautiful Jennie! I love the colors you used. And thanks for sharing the pattern. I have been wanting to make a crochet rug for ages and this looks totally doable!
