(Above painting is one of the pieces)
So I won first place for two paintings in an art contest, which also includes having my paintings hang in a gallery for a month and really, I'm freaking out.  I've always just painted for myself, maybe given a piece of two to family or friends, but now it's all out there in the public for everyone to see! And long story short, I really don't feel like an artist or all that  great at painting!  Ack!
The art show is on Friday and I have no idea what to wear or to expect.  I know my fellow Craftsters are fantastic at advice and I could really use some!  Thanks in advance if you have any for me!

What a beautiful and expressive painting. I can see why you won, there is so much life in your work.

Here's my advice...
1. Practice smiling and saying thank you to any and all compliments. No "I'm not that good" or "I can't believe they chose me"...just "Thank you" and a smile. Works wonders.
2. Practice a stock phrase for questions like "Where do you get your inspiration?" or "How long have you been painting", etc. Keep it short and simple.
3. Wear whatever you are most comfortable in. You are the artist after all and are allowed to be quirky or elegant or simply dressed or whatever. Get dressed, go, then forget about what you are wearing.
4. Watch the free wine (if there is any). One glass only. You can get drunk when you get home.
5. Have a good time. Relax and enjoy as much as possible. You won after all! Fantastic! You are an artist. You paint and create and have validation in your talent by winning. So, accept fate, smile and enjoy. The ordeal will be over soon.

Thanks for the advice!   My sister was the one that encouraged me to enter, so on top of all that, I'll be holding her hand most the night lol.  I let her know that doing this was for me, like going grocery shopping naked lol.  Thank you again for all the great advice!

First of all congratulations!  I'm so happy for for you.  I'm always proud of my fellow craftsters do well.  Yes, you are an artist Cool!  I really like that painting.  Will we get a chance to see the second painting?  I'm really curious about it.  If I won something like that I would dress classy and have a natural to classic makeup look. I would be bit more creative with the accessories and nail color. Whatever you feel good in works.

This  is the second painting that won.  It was a Freethinkers art contest and they requested paintings based on Freethinkers, atheism, feminism, science, and zoology.  I won the atheism and feminism categories.

I survived!   Actually it was kinda fun, there were lots of different styles of art there, and it was always a dream of mine to see some of my work hanging on a gallery wall, and there it was.  It was awesome!   Plus hubby took me out for some vegetarian sushi afterwards Smiley  can't beat a spur of the moment date night!  Thank you everyone for the advice!  Couldn't have made it without it!
