I really want to join, but I have a few questions first.... I did a lot of googling and checking pinterest.... But how do the edges not fray when using just cotton fabric... am I supposed to line it with interfacing? Or back it with felt? That's the only thing holding me back... I am so confused!  Undecided

There are a lot of ways to finish the edges. Just choose the one(s) you like best.

Suggestions:
*Use Fray-Check or similar product around edges before trimming away excess fabric
*Fold excess fabric to back and stitch or glue in place: backing optional but helpful
*Satin stitch around edges
*Blanket stitch over folded edges
*Whip stitch/overcast stitch around edges
*Add rickrack, lace, or piping to edges, then turn under on the stitching line
*Staystitch a frame around your work, then unravel the fabric up to the stitching lines (makes a fringed edging)

If you're thinking about using the fabric for an applique on your work, use a fusible webbing before cutting your piece. Shouldn't fray, but you could always add stitching to be certain (zig-zag, blanket stitch, satin stitch, whip/overcast stitch, running stitch, etc.).

Hope these ideas help. I know there are more ways than I've listed, so maybe other people will chime in with their favorite methods. In any case, join us!

Well kbrison you sold me on it!

I am off to finish my questionnaire right now! All sent! I can't wait! I might just have to make some sample ones now to see what finishing method works best for me!

Anyone here heard of 39 Squares?

I took part in that 39 Squares project a few years back, it was a blast! These were some of my first bits of embroidery, and I've gone on to do lots better things, but this is still one of my favorites. It's kind of mixed up and crazy, but I think that's why it holds a soft spot for me. I was 35 years old when I did this project, so I only did 35 squares.  Smiley

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.
