Here's how the box started. The "binding" slides out to reveal the chamber of secrets (see what I did there?).  ;-)

Here it is after painting.  I love how this one turned out!  I used watered-down acrylic paint for the stain, scrapbook paper decoupaged for the decorations, and sharpies to further embellish the book.  I used a piece of handmade paper for the inside but I did not Mod-Podge the top so it kept its soft feel.
