I am just finishing up organizing my first swap and holy cow! it is quite a bit of work even for a smallish swap. I've been on Craftster for 6 years and I guess I didn't realize how much time it truly takes. I hosted a little swap with a dozen awesome, responsible swappers and no real hiccups.

Makes me appreciate all the regular organizers. Thank you for all your time!

One other thing that kinda surprised me: I always thought it would feel neat and powerful to be the one assigning partners. I actually found it a bit stressful and definitely time consuming!! I whimped out and assigned partners randomly. It was a two-point swap and everyone shared similiar interests so I was lucky to have that option.

I just wanted to post because I peeled back the curtain on organizing and it was different than I expected.  A good experience overall!

I've chickened out on organizing a swap (thanks for saving me, Onyxnox!) because I realized it would be too stressful.  Swaps are stressful for me anyway because I hate deadlines (which is why I usually finish way early), so having to deal with organizing in a timely manner looked like I would be asking for trouble.   Shocked

Yes, it's a lot of work and time dedication!  Thanks to all of our awesome organizers.

Organizing a swap does involve a smidge of work...but it's a really rewarding experience Smiley

If you're hesitant to organize one on your own, sometimes it's helpful to pair up with another person for your first swap organizing gig! Cheesy

*nods* It's a lot less scary to be a co-organizer. It was a good way to try it out and gain some confidence before going solo Smiley

Congratulations on your first time organizing! Oh my goodness, I had only participated in about 3 swaps when I organized my first with the very lovely Calabaza helping me out every step of the way.   I really enjoy organizing because I find that in the swaps I organize, I feel like I get to connect with the swappers more and get to know people better than when I just participate. And I really like that!

But yes, having a seasoned organizer as a co-organizer is very helpful and it's nice to have someone you can ask any organizing questions you may have.
