I don't need no instructions to know how to rock.

I made this for nostephot in the Jar of Whimsies Round 9 swap.  Part of the swap was decorating the container, so I bought a large paper mache box and went to work.

I created a padded top and sides for the box using cardboard, batting, and some pretty fabrics.  My partner noted in the questionnaire that she liked Mardi Gras, so I tried to pick out some subtly Carnival fabrics.  She also mentioned gnomes and moustaches, and so my idea was born.

I stenciled on the gnome silhouette with a handcut stencil and some acrylic fabric inks.  When I padded the top piece, I added a magnet on the gnome's lip area.  Then I cut out and stitched up four felt moustaches, also with their own magnets inside.  Thus, the gnome has interchangeable moustaches.

The inside is also lined, and I added ribbon and cording around all of the pieces I could, to make it more finished.  I got some sweet little vintage mushroom flat backs, so I put them around the edges to hide where the ribbon/cord met.

Inside the top of the lid I made a little fabric envelope to hold the extra moustaches.

It still makes me giggle.  Thanks for looking!

You have GOT to be kidding me. The interchangeable moustaches are fantastic! *giggle*

You don't make it with your hands.
You form it with your hands.
You make it with your mind.
