Challenge: DA--Lessons with Harry
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Stunning Spell Sun Catchers
Project Description: I needed a little umph for my windows in my room. I get lots of morning sun through the window over my bed so I wanted to take advantage of it.  These sun catchers not only look snazzy but give my room a lovely bit of color when I wake up in the morning.

May I join in?  I know it's late in the semester, but I've been stuck in the library getting way too excited about all the books.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Divination Class
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Winter Leaves Shawl
Project Page Link (if available): n/a, but more pictures on flickr and ravelry
Brief Description: I used to work at a historic site, and one of the things I liked about the opening shift was you had a few minutes with the mountaintop all to yourself to admire the dewdrops caught in the webs the spiders had made in the trees.  When my mom asked me to make her a shawl with beads, I found a pattern with leaves and tried to capture some of those memories.

Just look at it as a free craft supply - I used the ice/snow dye technique to make these fabulous shirts, one of which went to blupaisan as a Valentine's Day gift (many more pictures in the main post):

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Bertie Botts' Tomato of love!!
SPEW: (If your item is for charity, enter that here; if not leave blank or add n/a.) n/a
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: a smallish demonstration of my love for Rosie
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques/recipe used, any fun tips, etc.)  The bean flavor, tomato leads to demonstrations of love. I love my daughter sooo much. I really have no money, but knew just what would make her happiest for Valentine's Day. I worked on this for a month. It begins with a large package and ends with a tiny but wonderful surprise. I was there as she opened each layer. An unforgettable experience.
Project Picture:

First the big box which I hauled into her livingroom...

I cut out dozens of illustrations from one of her childhood favorite books that I got for free at a convenience store of all places, and added cut-out text to create funnies.

There are just too many to show, but each is funnier than the last.

Inside of that is another box 'wrapped' in giant easy-to-read "Who Called Notes" with personal jokes on them.

Inside that....
Paper with footie prints on it...

inside that, a fabric painted pillowcase -

next, a giant map of Greece with a favorite quote from the movie Twister

inside that, a box decorated with owls and funny names I cut out of our local phone book!

Names are stuff like Smart Rob, Sargeant Bruce, Pray Kayla, Patch Marvin, Hellman Joel.

inside that, paper that I french-knotted together, forming an envie.

Inside that, an envie featuring Nature inchies...

inside that, a photo I cut from a How to Drum book, with funnies added

inside that, some cut-outs from an antique How to Draw book... turned into an envie

inside that, an envie made from a Russian WatchTower magazine.

inside that, my rainbow zentangles with personal jokes hidden

inside that, a tiny ATC envie made from a Vermont map

And FINALLY  she gets to open her 'real' gift which is a mere ATC (after all that!!)

but the back announces that I quit smoking a month ago.

She liked it.

Those gifts are truly priceless.

Do you come up with those jokes yourself?  They crack me up!

blu, that entire package is just UNREAL.  What an absolutely amazing gift and expression of love!  On a personal note, the very first layer has to be my favorite, because of the Richard Scarry book.  Throughout my entire childhood, whenever my grandmother would come to visit us at our home, the very first thing we would do (I mean literally, even before she got to go to the bathroom, lol) was sit in "the grandma chair", her, my brother and me, and she would read the same Richard Scarry book to us (one of the big blues one), cover to cover.  So in my book (sorry for the pun), that's a pretty awesome choice for "favorite childhood books".  (I think Richard Scarry is going to have to be one of my ATC themes for the next round now.  Wink )  The quotes are so funny!  I also love the footprints paper (Oscar the Grouch -- teehee), and the adorable owls (felt?) with personalities to match their names.

Geez, what a great package!!!  Wouldn't something like this make a cool swap theme?  I know nobody's going to send out a big box, but if you keep opening decorated envelopes, etc. designed to fit your partners' interests... has there been a swap like that before?

And last but not least, congrats on quitting smoking.  Smiley

Project Name: V-day of Nerdiness and Deliciousness
    Project Link: http://kitchenoverlord.com/2013/07/11/1-up-mushroom-pizza-rolls/
Brief Description: I dont have any children yet so I have some free time (I cant imagine how you crafty ladies with kids can still get so much done!) I also LOVE food. So for Valentines day I went a little overboard and cooked up lots of deliciousness (all of this plus steak and potatoes and broccoli, we were so full!) The cupcakes and cake were supposed to look like the galaxy with little pops of color from the funfetti on the inside but the batter was slightly yellow hence the green. And I guess didnt carefully read the instructions on the mushrooms very well I apparently needed a mini-muffin tin and not a regular one but they were still pretty tasty and looked pretty awesome. And instead of doing a basil pesto, I just did tomatoey pizza sauce and inside with just pepperoni and cheese and sauce.
