working on my OWL. beginning to cut and prepare the many many embroidery strings to hang my ATCs. My technique is to put a bit of glue at both ends of the string. After it dries, one end will hang from the thumbtack in the ceiling - no need to tie or loop. I will just have glue-sealed ends and that will allow me to put the tack between the 2 flosses. The other end will attach to the card. After glue dries, I take a needle and separate the 2 strands. I want the strands to be nice and firm and straight, hence the dried glue, then I lay the 2 separated strand ends on the very edge of the top of the card and let it dry. so far so good

NEWT Subject: Transfiguration
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Child Winter Wool Coat
Brief Description: I will turn this wool and that fleece blankets into a warm, cory long coat with a hood for my big girl, because she wants a long winter coat like mommy. I'm not using a pattern so I need to draft one. I will most likely make a "practice" coat with an old bedsheet before cutting in the good stuff. I will use twig buttons and might also embellish the hood with fur like my friend did.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: House Unity
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Lady Hogwarts
Brief Description: I first got the idea for this while deciding what to make for my daughter's barbie dolls and had already decided to use up a small ball of red yarn. Remembering that Red was a Gryffindor color, I decided to make the dress with a section of the colors of the other three houses, putting Slytherin at the top. It's completely free form as is everything else I usually crochet

Class: Transformation
House: Slytherin
Project Name: The Little Mermaid
Project Description: The Little Mermaid is one of my favorite stories and a classic transformation tale. In the end, in the original story, the poor little mermaid transforms twice; once into a human and then again into sea foam when the prince that she loves marries another.

I don't think I have ever posted here before but I follow it and love seeing all the projects! Reading the above. Reminded me of a funny story and I thought I would jump in and share hope that is ok!

When I was little my mum bought me The Little Mermaid on video. When it appeared half way through that she was going to die I got really upset and wanted to stop watching. Mum promised me that it would be ok (a promise to us is something we would never ever break) so I continued watching. At the end she died. I was heart broken. Mum had bought me the original version not the Disney version and had not known it was different! I cried my heart out. I was so upset it was about ten years until I could bear to watch even the Disney version!! To be honest, I don't even watch the Disney version now (about 25 years later)!!!!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Potions
Project Name: A swap item
Project Page Link (if available):N/A
Brief Description: One of my small items for my swap partner in the Geeky Swap
Project Picture: Linkety link

Class/Challenge/House Pride: SoAR
Project Name: Foot Spa
Project Page Link (if available):N/A
Brief Description: My first scrapbook layout of 2013! Smiley And it's a double!! A few of Wunjo's meanings are "Joy", "Family", "Bonding" and "harmony". When I saw the photos of my twin girls that was what jumped out at me after reading the information on Wunjo.

Story behind the layout - we pushed out trip to visit my family in Germany back from April to end of May to make sure that we have nice and sunny weather. This day we decided to go to a nice big open air market, and although it was a bit misty and drizzly when we left the house by car, we hoped it would clear up. Well... it didn't. In fact, 30 mins after arriving at the outdoor market (placed in a farmer's field!) it was chucking down, we had fries under a tent and the water was just dripping down everywhere. All 5 of us (including my mum) were soaked to the bones, so we drove back to mum's and then decided to give the girls a foot bath to avoid them getting a cold etc. And as you can see ... they had the best time of it! Smiley

And now also a CONGRATULATIONS to all our Craftsters 2013!! Smiley

Challenge: DA---Lessons with Harry
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Disarming
Project Description: I have a loooonnng list of things that get in my way of getting various projects. So it was hard to decide what to tackle for this project. I finally decided to organize some plastic letter beads that have been driving me crazy for years!  I have kept these beads in an unorganized box and spent the time to separate them into sections. I didn't want to do every letter so I decided to separate the alphabet into six sections and then numbers.  So I now have vowels, numbers 1-9 (zero and "O" looked the same so they became all "O", B-F, G-K, L-P, Q-V, W-Z.  It took awhile but now I can actually use these beads instead of look at them in disgust and walk away.  I'm excited!!!

Challenge: DA--Lessons with Harry
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Valentine's Day Handwarmers--- impediment jinx
Project Description: Some cozy handwarmers to watch the game in and hold hands with your sweetheart as we cheer Slytherin to victory....(crosses fingers and starts some more crafts in hopes of catching the snitch)  I crocheted these in chocolate/blue variegated and pink.

Inselaeffchen~ Fantastic secret swap item. Great scrapbook pages. When I am making a batch of lip balm I use the recipe from the book D.I.Y. girl with alterations, I will also add more wax to the little bit of salve that won't quite fill the last jar. Basically I take 1/4 cup oil (I like to use an infused oil), and add anywhere from 1 to 3 teaspoons of beeswax, and a small amount of Shea Butter (heat the oil and stir in the butter and wax, a teaspoon at a time until melted). To test the consistency I place a spoon coated in the mixture in the freezer for a few minutes. Once I have a consistency I like, I mix in 10-20 drops of essential oil (my favorite to use for this is peppermint but my siblings don't like it much) and a little bit of lipstick to color the balm (it doesn't really color the lips). Then pour it (you may need to reheat so you can pour it) into tins and let it cool. The book suggests adding 1/8 teaspoon glycerin for shininess, a vitamin E capsule for preserving (I add enough essential oil that I don't worry about adding vitamin E unless I have some on hand, which I didn't this time), and/or food grade glitter (because glitter). The heating can be done in the microwave or on the stove. Initially I heat the oil in twenty second increments for about a minute and if I need to reheat while I am making it I do so 10-15 seconds at a time. Hope that helps.
ErinAquaheart~ I'm updating points in the common room and I was wondering which lesson with Harry your hand warmers were for (shield charm perhaps?), they are quite lovely by the way. Congrats on organizing your letter and number beads. I finished organizing my seed beads last month, it took me over a year to get them all sorted.

Challenge: Join the DA - Reductor
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: University of Illinois College of Law Charm Bracelet

Brief Description:  This may be one of the most unusual and specific charm bracelets I've ever been asked to make.  It is themed around the University of Illinois College of Law, and is a graduation present for a soon-to-be lawyer.  As I went to graduate school at University of Illinois myself, it was a really fun and personal project to work on. It contains 17 sterling silver, Tibetan silver, and pewter charms, including a Briefcase, the Constitution, Justice Scales, Abraham Lincoln, Law Book, Judge, Diploma, Lady Justice, University of Illinois Logo, Gavel, Suit Jacket, Police Badge, Stack of Books, Laptop Computer, state of Illinois, Contract, and a Coffee Cup.  The beads include crystal, Czech glass, Druk glass, goldstone, carnelian, and amber, in shades of Illini blue and orange.  The whole thing measures less than 3"x3"x3" when closed. Cheesy

Challenge: Detention - February
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Abraham Lincoln Charm Bracelet

Brief Description:  Another unusual, but incredibly fun bracelet design. It is a celebration of the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln. It contains 17 sterling silver, Tibetan silver, and pewter charms that represent aspects of his life and character, surrounded by a mix of glass, Czech glass, and crystal beads in black and clear.  The charms include: Abraham Lincoln in profile, United States Constitution, Bow Tie, Lincoln House in Springfield (a vintage sterling silver charm), Stovepipe Hat (vintage), American Flag, Mary Todd Lincoln, an Ax for the Rail Splitter, Cabin in Kentucky where he was born, Shovel which he used to do his homework on, Justice Scales for his time as a lawyer, Horse for riding the Court Circuit, the White House, Envelope on which he wrote the Gettysburg Address, Funeral Train, State of Illinois, and a Heart for his beloved sons.  The only *color* used on this project is black, since clear is a lack of any color. Project Name: Birdhouse in Your Soul ATB

Project Page Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=431297.msg5155733#msg5155733
Brief Description: I recently participated in the Artist Trading Block Swap.  While stalking my partner's Pinterest I noticed she had pinned an altered art tag, which had the lyric "Make a little birdhouse in your soul" on it.  And after seeing noodle-bug's amazing hand stitched Birdhouse for Your Soul, I knew I had to completely steal ahem, take inspiration from her example and create a Steampunk Birdhouse for amaryllisroze's Soul.  There are a lot of small details in this one that are explained in the project thread.
