I made this for my partner in the Video Game swap. She mentioned the phoenix more than a couple times; so I had to make her one. I've admired the work of Abigail Glassenberg for years and have always wanted to make sometime like her works. Luckily, she has a book called 'The Arful Bird.'

Luckily, she includes base patterns and gives advice on how to put your bird together. I used the crow body and the flying wings of the gull to make this Phoenix. I lucked out finding the perfect fire color batik fabric. The base of the body and wings were red flannel. After sewing it together, I sewed and glued all of the feathers on. Originally, I sewed the wonderfully sparkly eyes on; but they were wonky. So I took out the stitches and glued them on. I lucked out finding these beads. It looks like it has eyelashes!!! The beak is made with air dry clay and painted.

My partner liked it, I hope you do too.

I love seeing birds made from that book!  Your phoenix is brilliant.
