Class/Challenge/House Pride/Unity:  DA - A Drink at the Hog's Head challenge
house: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Vegetable Soup For Six
Project Page Link (if available): none
Brief Description: When the weather turns cool and rainy, my dd often asks for this.  This soup can be made for any number of people just by adjusting the amount of the ingredients (I use 1 per person and 1 for the pot).
Ingredients for Six:
   1 tsp oil
   7 stalks celery
   7 Carrots
   7 medium potatoes
   1 large onion
*1 large/ 2 small cloves of garlic (added to help ward off colds)
   1 rounded tsp thyme
1 8-12 oz tomato juice (I used tomato paste and add water)
Salt and pepper to taste (I use Natures Seasoning for extra flavor)
   *2 cans minced clams (optional)

Dice carrots, celery and onions into pieces.   Saut carrots and celery in oil for about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.  Add onions and saut until onions become transparent.  Add water to cover and simmer for about 10 minutes.  Peel and dice potatoes while other ingredients are simmering.  Mince garlic.  Add potatoes and garlic.  Add tomato juice, thyme and water  to cover.  Bring to boil and cook until potatoes are done.  Add any additional salt and pepper to taste.  If you like clams (I love them), add the minced clams with their juice.  Let soup rest and cool for a few minutes.  Serve.

Project Picture:

My mother taught me this during WWII  when things were tight and it has been a favorite ever since.  Sometimes I add other ingredients, depending on what  is available, but this is the basic recipe.  DD always tells me that if she had a last meal, this is what she would request.

Thanks everyone! I think she might just be the cutest lion tamer ever. I cannot wait to take her trick or treating tomorrow! (Last year she was very little and fell asleep before it was trick or treating time.)

@netchez: I have some leftover veggies right now and I might just have to make this soup! It looks delicious. Thanks for sharing!

AWESOME, AWESOME projects everyone!!!!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Astronomy
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Phases of the Moon ATC
Brief Description: I find the Moons phases fascinating. So I made an ATC of the phases of the moon. It includes a dial to allow the moon to go through its phases.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Charms
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Pokemon Badges
Brief Description: As a pokemon trainer, the best way to keep track of your progress is to earn gym badges. And the best way to keep track of which ones you have is to have pins of them! Now I can show off my progress as I make my way through the game.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Flying
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Pokemon Trainer
Brief Description: Flying over certain regions sometimes yields very interesting flying companions, including the occasional Pokemon trainer making a quick trip on their Pidgey or Unfezant.  For Halloween I made myself a Pokemon trainer costume. I made the vest, bag and arm cuffs and painted the hat.
Project Picture:

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Study of Ancient Runes
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Weeping Angel Pumpkin
Brief Description: Jera is the key to understanding the mysteries of time. The Doctor must have a very good understanding of this rune as must another alien in the whoverse, the weeping angel. I carved this pumpkin as a reminder that time can be lost in a blink of an eye.

I like Kit-Kat, unless I'm with 4 or more people.

Class: CoMC
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Happy HOWL-oween
Brief Description: Werewolves are fascinating creatures. This past month has been spent studying them and to honour their plight, I have carved an image of one in a pumpkin. This unfortunate werewolf had no companion to accompany him during the transformation and I fear he is out hunting Little Red. Run Little Red, run!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Flying
House: Slytherin
Project Name: vampire bat
Project Page Link: none
Brief Description: If you are out flying at night, you may spot a bat if you are paying close attention. Muggle bats will not fly into you unless there is something severely wrong with them but the magical vampire bat will. You must be very careful not to allow it to catch you, for if it does all kinds of nasty things can happen. I carved the likeness a magical vampire bat onto a Samhain pumpkin to remind everyone to be careful. (I learned if you draft your design using a dry-erase marker, then you can wipe it away and redraw until you are satisfied)

Baby oil works to take off sharpie marker, too. And if you pin prick your design, and powder with baby powder over the holes, you can follow that design technique as well. A wax china marker is another option.

Oiling your carving afterwards helps keep it fresh longer, too! Great job! I like your pumpkin.

NEW REQUEST: Need quilting fabric with ONLY purple, grey, green. Solids or Prints in any combination/shades, but NO OTHER COLORS ALLOWED. HELP! They are hard to find.

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Frog Choir
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Filbert the Frog

Inspired a little by Halloween, I knitted a stuffed frog friend. He turned out a little creepy looking, but I still like the results. It was my first time doing a box stitch, it started out good and then I somehow lost a stitch so the rows ended up becoming diagonal. My frog actually ended up with some decent scales.

Happy Advanced Studies Friday everyone!

I realized I haven't updated on my status since the 18th.  Since then I've completed 17 more bracelets!  That now brings my count for my NEWT to 82 bracelets made in 42 days, or almost 2 per day.   Shocked

I hope to complete 10 more between today and tomorrow, but then I have to work all day on Sunday at my real job. Sad  Trying to work in some time that night to get some more earrings and bookmarks done too.  Wish me luck!

29 days and 18 bracelets to go!

~*Advanced Studies Friday Update!*~
So, while working on my NEWT I've been down about the fact that I'm not getting much done during the week after I get home from work.  Most of my crafting ends up taking place on the weekend.  Problem is, I'll be working weekends at my real job soon, and won't be done till Thanksgiving.  The same time frame I need to be crafting for my NEWT.  Sad  So, this week I decided I was going to accomplish 1 bracelet per night, just one start to finish each night.  I laid out all my supplies on my portable craft desk, and spent Monday night setting up the chains.  Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday nights I added 1/3 of the charms to each of seven bracelets.  And last night I finished them off!  So, the score from Monday through Thursday is 7 bracelets DONE in 4 nights!  Can I get a heck yeah?  Heck yeah!

At this point I am officially changing the goal of my NEWT to be 100 bracelets by November 30.

43 days and 30 bracelets to go!
