I just found this at a thrift store. As far as I can tell, it's a vintage Hartstone shortbread pan that somebody gussied up. The reverse side is painted pretty colors and glazed, even initialed RR by the artist.

Do you think it's oven-safe at this point? The glaze and paint make me wary. I suspect that RR hung it on her wall after painting, and never baked with it.

I can always use a cookie stamp dough which I invert onto a cookie sheet before baking, but of course it would be nice to be able to bake shortbread right in it.

What would you do?

I'd pop it in the oven, empty, bring it up to temperature and see if it smells bad or the paint changes colour. If neither happens then there is a higher chance that the paint is proper porcelain (food safe) paint.

Maybe someone else can think of the next test?

Look twice, buy once. Nooooo
Look twice, decide I can make one instead.

For me if you like the look of it, leave for decor and cook in something else. Most home glazes are not meant for such temps, and especially colored paint.
