Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

Last night my husband and I went to the VSO (it was lovely!) and had our first *big* fall date night last night.  I was at a loss for what to wear... I view this sort of outing as an excuse to get dressed up.  Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of a sort of wardrobe turnover and have very few dressy options. I had made this but not actually gotten around to wearing it yet, so was pleased to find something new and somewhat dressy lurking in my closet. Anyway, the dress:

I made this in the summer. It is made from the sleeves of a really big velour sweatshirt (best way I can think of describing it!) and the top half of a velour jacket thing with colossal shoulder pads that my grandmother gave me. Each of the original items would likely be perfect for a more senior-citizen me, but that me isn't around just yet and the current me is not patient enough to wait it out.

It was a fairly simple and fast project.  I removed the sleeves from the sweatshirt, opened them up, eyeballed and cut a skirt shape out of them, and then sewed them together; for the top I took the open front jacket and cropped the bottom half off after trying it on and crossing the front to get a sense for where I wanted the seam between the skirt and top parts to be.  I attached them together, overlapping the front parts of the former jacket.  Hopefully that all makes sense.

It's not perfect, but I think it served me well. I like the way the neckline sits; I like the animal print; I don't like the seam in the middle and back of the skirt, nor do I like that I left the cuffs as is on the sweatshirt sleeves to save hemming the soon-to-be skirt and the stitching started to come undone by the middle of the evening.

Anyway... Thanks for looking.  Smiley

Thanks everyone! I love these sorts of projects - the ones that come together easily - because they feel so rewarding! I put it on inside out initially all ready to adjust the fit and found that it didn't need adjustment Smiley
