I tried this and used my daughters Elmer's liquid paint pen instead. They are the kind that have the brush and a cap on them. I found out if you just squeeze them then the color drops out. My cards turned out AWESOME. If only I can figure out how to not get the "paint" all over the SUPPOSED TO BE blank parts of the card. Alos I wonder if you really really watered down watercolors or acrylics if they would work.   I also tried putting a layer of modge pog down and then swirling the paint into it. It turned out terrible. LOL Don't try.

EDIT: I wonder how oil and colored water would do... Probably just make the paper oily

the oil and colored water would probably make the paper pucker. Who knows, that might even end up as a cool added effect?

I just tried these for the first time today and i LOVE the results!  They were so easy and fun to make (my fingers are all dyed haha)!  Now I have quick and easy cards to include with my swaps and gifts to family and friends. I can't wait to show my little cousins, they will just love to try this since they are ages 4 through 9.  THANK YOU!!

Ugh I love this project.  I did a few small ones, but I'm really excited to tackle something larger.  My tip would be to maybe not use too many colors, that seemed to not work so well for me.

All of them together:

My favorite: (this was the first one I did, before really mixing the food coloring too much)
