I picked this cutie up at the thrift shop for 75 cents. It is missing one snap, so I pinned it just to take this id photo. It says Portugal on the material, as if it were a souvenir, but that may not be the case.
Has numerous open 'pockets' but I just cannot imagine what one is supposed to put in there. I am pretty sure it sits on a flat surface, not hang on a wall.

thanks for helping! (-:

I vaguely remember this on the table of a friends house years ago with warm rolls in it.
Sorry. Biscuits

It is for rolls!
And it is a souvenir piece.  The little roosters are traditional Portuguese folk art and they are on EVERYTHING over there. They are most popularly seen as little carved wooden figurines.

My Ma picked up a couple of these on a trip to Cozumel, they're for bread! You put them in a bowl and tuck your warm buns or biscuits in them :3

Seems I'm late to the party though and you already got your answer XP

Aha, they are for bread. I can imagine the smell of warm breads in that lovely basket on the breakfast table.
I have seen smaller ones been used for eggs.

That's when you know it's vintage-it's so old that we had trouble figuring out what it's used for! Grin
