I made a few minature things for my American girl dolls:

First, I made a little pencil pouch with a real zipper, some pencils and a real eraser:

The pencils were made from skewers I cut to size, painted and the silver part is a piece of foil I glued on after they were dry.  The eraser, I just cut it from a regular pink eraser with an exacto knife.  The pouch is sewn just like a normal sized one (but just big enough to fit my mini pencils in), I just had to shorten the zipper.  There are probably lots of tutorials on how to make a zipper pouch and how to shorten a zipper.

Next, is a mini macbook!

I found an image of the front and back of the laptop online and printed them out the size that seemed right for my doll.  I cut out a piece of corrugated cardboard to glue the images to (to give it some bulk) but before glueing, I cut a slot in the top and bottom on the inside front and put magnets in them. After I glued the image over the top, this covered the magnets and you would never know they were there but when you close the laptop it stays closed because the magnets touch!  (It wouldn't stay shut without the magnets so I added them but a real laptop feels like it has magnets when it closes too)  I also painted the edge where the corrugated cardboard showed in gray to match the outside and put clear tape over the whole thing to make it shiny and keep the edges of the images from peeling off.  Then, I sewed a simple case for it out of felt with a button closure.

Wow, really nice job!  If not for the inclusion of the scissors, I would totally buy that those were normal, human-sized items!  Thanks to your efforts, your dolls should be all set for the start of the school year!

I only have one American Girl doll, a mini Julie Allbright, but I have piles of the books . . .
