Challenge: May Multimedia
Team: Nerdy Ladies
Project Geekdom: Nerdy Ladies
Bonus Points: Discovery and Nerdy (as I'm crafting for our team's declared geekdom)
Project Name: Wonder Woman iPad Case
Brief Description: I found a whole heap of charts for various superhero logos and since I've been meaning to learn charted crochet for a while, I decided to give it a go. I decided on Wonder Woman's logo because she is totally awesome, and she also fits within our team's declared geekdom of ladies from the nerdyverse. For this project I also learnt how to crochet with one colour, while holding the other colours behind the working yarn. I hope that makes sense? After completing the patch, I added a few more rows so I was able to make this into a cover for my iPad. I made some fasteners with buttons and short lengths of chain stitch. Since the cover is mostly red, I think it fits for the May Multimedia challenge, and I can't wait to show my nerdy pride on campus ^_^

Challenge/Battle/Alert: May Multimedia - Red Pill
Team/Ninja: Fantasy
Project Geekdom (if any): /
Bonus Points: /
Project Name: Caring and grieving
Project Page Link (if available): /
Brief Description:
We're all been forced to swallow the bitter red pill and we're terribly shaken by my grandmother's death (it's been only 40 hours) and we really need to support each other as a family. There are many though decisions to be made (I won't be involved for most of that, my mother, her four sisters and their brother will be doing the decision making) and the past two weeks were already an exhausting trip, especially for my mother, who was constantly ping-ponging between the hospital, her home and mine (which is a lot closer to the hospital) and her house was really, really messy and dirty and because she hadn't been eating at home so the fridge was full of expired food. While she was convening with the family and the undertaker, I spent the whole day with my younger brother cleaning up the ground floor of the house, doing three loads of laundry, getting rid of all the wilted plants, clearing out and washing out the fridge, setting up a bit of a memorial spot for grandma with some of the plants that were in her hospital room. I also cooked dinner for my mother and she fell asleep within an hour after eating.

It was very therapeutical and it really felt like a tribute: my grandmother was always a very organised, very clean lady. Her house would rarely be messy and certainly never dirty. There's even been a period in her life when cleaning ruled her life, so spending the day after her death by cleaning really felt very appropriate.

Since mum always wakes up early, I also made a quick and easy card with some encouraging words to start her day while we were still asleep. All red, but with an attention-grabbing white border so she couldn't miss it on the table cloth.

(Also, I think I need to buy my mother a new camera, the picture quality is really terrible and I think the thing is already 6-8 years old! Sorry for the crappy pictures.)

Naantje, what a kind and thoughtful way to care for your mother.  I'm sure she feels your love greatly right now.  Best wishes to you and your family.
