Hi Their, everyone!!

I'm new here and joined to pick the brains of people more experienced than I am. I have been crocheting for a few months now and I'm loving every aspect of it, I've been really into Amigurumi recently and made a totoro, 4th Doctor & a self portrait doll too, but now i want to make something awesome! But I'm at a total loss pattern wise, so I was wondering if anyone could help me develop a pattern?

I want to make a Martian Fighting Machine from the Cover of Jeff Wayne's war of the worlds I have managed to block out the basic shapes needed as most guides I've read has told me but I'm still at a loss for how to create these shapes?

So no one has any ideas on how i can create the body shape?..I was thinking maybe just doing an egg and having a piece of card in the bottom to keep it flat and stuff it to create the dome shape?

That could work, or since the top and bottom  of the body portion are a bit different you might want to construct them separately and seam it together. I have a dolphin (or seal, I forget) pattern that is assembled that way and works pretty well.

I had thought of this, I found a crochet pattern for an Oval and by dropping a few stitches at one end it gave the pointed sort of shape I needed, but I have been mega consumed with making Dolls that i had totally forgot about this project XD
