So I was on IG and scrolling, scrolling...when one of the embroiderists I follow posted a "Hoop Box." Hosted by @jessicarosestitchery, this box comes with two hoops of different colors, different sorts of fabric, and thread.

So my immediate thought was....swap a hoop.....you send your partner a hoop and fabric, they stitch it (based on your questionnaire) and return it to you! What do you think?

I'm up for anything stitchy.

Also, I like stitching, but get tired of it and don't want to see it anymore. So giving away and getting something fresh from someone else is great!

*thrusting into your arms* Here, you take this! And you keep it!

Would your partner send you the design they want as well? I'd be nervous of trying to follow a pattern someone else chose due to my somewhat shaky embroidery skills.

I carry a bag that says FREE KNITTING LESSONS on my daily transit commute, & give a little hands-on tutorial to anyone who asks. They get a starter kit with needles, enough cotton yarn to make a plain dishcloth and a set of instructions. Swaps/donations for materials welcome!

So, I went and scrolled through her posts. It looks as if she sells a 'hoop package' on etsy where she paints/stains the hoops, sends you several sizes with pre-installed fabric as a curated collection. Then you can stitch them with whatever you like.

I think this is an interesting concept for a swap. Because you can pick colors that are complimentary to wherever you want to hang your hoops or just to your general esthetic (and remove guesswork). Then you partner just has to pick from your topics like usual.

For me, I would ask that the background fabric NOT be trimmed before sending. In case I want to take it out and trace a pattern on the fabric. Hard to do when sometimes it's trimmed SUPAH tight. Then I can complete the back prior to sending.

RovingAnarchist, I've seen your work and it is lovely! Any partner would be lucky-ducky!

Exactly! I was thinking that you would prep a hoop, (stain it, paint it, leave it bare, wrap it, etc), send along a piece of fabric big enough for the hoop, ~maybe~ special thread if you wanted it used....then you send all of that to your partner. Then your partner uses the questionnaire (take almost any questionnaire from any hoopla or stitchy swap) to stitch something mah-velous for you!

I would give specific instructions on how much fabric to send (i.e. two inches wider/taller than the hoop), where to paint/stain (and not to!) the hoop, and stuff like that for newbie people.

And I agree with JC, I would LOVE to get something from you! I promise that with ONLY back stitch under your belt, you can make some AMAZING things! Embroidery does not have to use fancy stitches to be fabulous.

Oooh. I didn't think about thread, but that's a GREAT idea! Esp. if you have a pallet you want to use!

Fun. I'm in!
