I stayed up all night last night sewing.  And one of my projects didn't work.  Damn you, t-shirt!!!

What I DID accomplish, between last night and today before my family's 4th of July party, was two skirts, one for my mom and one for me.

I hemmed Mom's last-minute, and she decided that she loved it but that it made her look "like a blimp."  But we decided that it makes a cool poncho.

Hemming Mom's skirt first, however, meant that I didn't have time to hem mine.  But it still looked cool.  It will soon have a rolled hem.  Since I failed at my attempt to make a halter out of a t-shirt, I wore it with a band-top that I used the tute from oh my stars for, on a big ol' Annapolis shirt I had (Naptown pride, baby!).

Here's a closeup of the fabric.  I love it...

The shirt is a little boxy, so in order to make me not look like a blimp, I cinched it in at the back with a safety pin, and tied a patriotic ribbon around it to hide the pin.  Like such...

I'm really building up a wardrobe of these square skirts.  I've got a pink flamingo one that I've gotta get pics of to post.  But meanwhile, tell me what you think of my oh-so-patriotic ensemble!  Happy Independence Day!

They look wonderfull.

This maybe a stupid question but how do you make a square skirt?? I'm guesssing it's one of those things where people will be looking and there computer screens saying "isn't it obvious" but hey i'm new to this kind of creativity, lol. Anyone got any links to tutorials??
