Last summer for my Birthday I decided to go to our local SPCA and adopt a cat Smiley Well I ended up coming home with two because our SPCA was having a deal adopt me and my shadow. Which meant that you could get two cat the where paired together so I ended up getting two brother kittens that where 4 months old.  When I started to look for a large cat tree for them, I could not believe how pricey they were so I convinced my husband to help me build one out of an old wood shelf I had. That begin our long weekend build.

Finished cat tree  Grin

Cats having a nap  Smiley

Wood shelf
Carpet glue
Cardboard tube
4 L brackets

Gluing all the carpet to the tubes and the wood shelves

My husband cut holes in each level of the wood shelf for the cats to get from the bottom to the top.

All the piece covered with carpet & trimmed with rope

I finished it off by wrapping all of the wood sides with rope for them to climb.

My cats were asleep when I looked at this wonderful cat tree with openings and curvy resting beds, and that's good because I am not ready to build them something as fun. This two cats were very lucky when you choose them at the SPCA.
You are so right, these trees are very expensive, even the much smaller ones then yours. Kudos for making one yourselves.

I've always looked at these scratching posts and cat trees and been annoyed at how expensive they are when they are apparently so straight forward.  This has given me renewed resolve to make one for our two.

I roller skate. I make pottery. Not at the same time.

I never would have thought of this! Thank you! I might just have two cat trees, because I bought one for my cat because it was on sale.  Tongue

Wow it's amazing!
I know it's an old thread but I have a small question.

Where does one can find a cardboard tube like that ?
I live in France if anybody knows some ways even in the USA maybe it can still work the same here.

Thanks in advance
