I had a really hard time thinking of a female character to dress up for this Halloween, so instead, I decided to do a genderswapped version of my favorite Batman villain...
...but not the Batman Returns, sewer-dwelling, flippered, face-biting movie version. The classy gangster comic version.
I sewed the tailcoat (using this pattern
), the gold vest (from Simplicity 4079) , the pinstripe A-line skirt (without a pattern), and the bow tie (from this pattern
). I already happened to have the perfect blouse, so I didn't have to worry about that.
I also added the purple bias tape to the top hat, and I made the gunbrella using a cheap Halloween Tommy-gun toy and a black umbrella.
I unfortunately did not get very many great photos, but I wanted to show the vest, since it's mostly covered in the other photos...so pardon the mirror shot...
Also, gunbrella...I had fun making this. I had take apart the toy gun, and then make the umbrella handle actually fit inside the toy gun. My friend and I tried to make it so that pulling the trigger opened the unbrella, unfortunately, the trigger just didn't have enough leverage.
And here's the reference photo I roughly based my costume on....
