I just remembered... I used to get 2 stockings. One at Grandma's, 1 at Mom's.

We had both the stocking from grandma and one from mom too. No oranges, no fruit, no nuts, just toys, candy and usually some tiny items for my dollhouse (made for my mom as a child by her grandfather. If you look at the main house at just the right angle you can read the word "explosives" embossed in the wooden box he used as a starting point).

I must share the best part about stockings when I was a kid - it was filling my grandma's & mom's stockings. My dad would take us all shopping and we would look for the oddest little kitchen tools to put in their stockings. They had to guess what each was for. we stopped the tradition when I went to college. I was seriously bummed to find out as an adult that mom and grandma dreaded opening their stockings and having to guess. Oh well, at least they put up a good front when we were kids. It's amazing how much variety you can find in melon ballers, zesters, garlic presses, cherry pitters, etc.

Crafting along nicely :)

Most of the time, we've done that stay up until past midnight deal, so gifts are often exchanged then, but some years it goes to Christmas morning.

As a teenager we would go to the Midnight service and mum would cook us a full English breakfast when we got home (think it was the only time we got a full cooked breakfast all year, so a special treat!) and we were allowed 1 present (a small one) before going to bed. Thankfully mine are too young for that ATM, and not sure its something I want to carry on.

As children we opened stockings snuggled up in my Grandparents bed (mum would sit on the end) and then the main pressies were opened after breakfast.
We do much the same - stockings before breakfast, then other presents later, one year Miles was still opening presents the next day as he got so overwhelmed by everything, but think he'll be excited more this this year as he now understands more about presents.
Christmas Day is also the only day we do a full roast, or rather DH does a full roast.

Just sent in my questionnaire. Wasn't going to join yet another swap, but I so loved doing the last one that I couldn't resist.

Last year, my gift to all my friends was stockings because I had great ideas for lots of little things for them. I didn't have time to make them all a stocking (I had just learned how to sew, and I had lots of other things to sew, and we did our Christmas get-together about two weeks before Christmas) so I went to Target and bought $1 felt stockings and filled them with homemade sugarplums, homemade pretzel turtles, ornaments, fridge magnets, English crackers with random things inside, fun printed tissues, etc. It was really fun.

I have been tempted by this swap for a long time.  I love Christmas Swaps!  I decided that the 12 days swap was just too much this year though.  This should be fun but not quite so all consuming. Smiley

I just realized a horrifying thing... I'm leaving around noon on 21st to go camping. Which means I won't know who my partner is until Sunday... *gasp!*

We always got stockings from Santa, then each set of grandparents =)  Stockings are just about the best!  Mom still does them for us and I still adore them.  I think I'm going to see if the man wants to exchange them between us for the first time in our 10 years of marriage.  We were going to last year but our last minute move 2 months before christmas put a stop to that.  PARTNERS TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!
